Butler coach Thad Matta will be back next season, athletic director Grant Leiendecker told @TheFieldOf68.
There was some speculation about retirement.
"We are fully committed and aligned on how we will reach expectations for the program going forward," Leiendecker said.
Matta is 63-69 and 39-55 in the Big East in four seasons. The Bulldogs were 16-16 and 7-13 in league play this season.

@ButlerGuru But it’s not so much about the on-court personnel as it is I don’t think Thad is a good Xs and Os coach anymore, which is what you need when you don’t get blue chip talents. He got out coached all year and couldn’t sniff the bubble with our best player since Kelan.

I don’t think this roster is even remotely close to what it will be by end of offseason. Expecting a fair amount of movement. I always try to wait until portal season is over before making predictions/assessments of the roster. No idea what ours will be and no idea what other schools will look like

Not popular, but I’ll give Thad another year at Butler. I know they’ve looked awful & I go back and forth on this, but a new coach with the same NIL resources isn’t going to make a huge difference. Thad loves BU, won’t leave & has a pedigree. I’ll give him 1 more year. Roast me.
