every grain in the hourglass hits me like a ton of bricks. you have to eat good food. you need to love, you need to win, you need to lose. you have to soak it all in. you need to fail and then win again. shake hands. hug people. say what’s up to a squirrel.

you’ll get mad at me for saying this…but cloud gaming is so obviously more economically efficient than physical hardware I think it’s going to be the default soon. your home console / pc is idle 90%+ of the day. meanwhile, data centers targets what, 5%, maybe at worst 10% idle. every second a cloud gamer isn’t gaming, that hardware is being used for someone else, training, etc. I think there should be a new measurement, something like cost-per effective FLOP hour that takes into account the TCO + effective utilization. If a gamer spends $500 on a GPU, uses it for 3 years, but it’s only fully active ~5% of that period…the cost-per relative FLOP hour is crazy high! Meanwhile, a $50,000 datacenter GPU might have a *LOWER* cost-per FLOP hour just because the effective utilization is 90+%.

Here’s your monthly reminder that you shouldn’t be prompting coding agents anymore. You should be grilling kebabs, running naked through sprinklers, lighting off firecrackers, killing wasps with hairspray flamethrowers, making fire pit smores, it’s the summer you fucking dorks

Some time ago I coded a TUI Minesweeper in Pascal. Today I coded an AI agent in C to play that Minesweeper for me so I have more time to increase the shareholder's value. This is only the beginning. We are not ready for what's coming.

Apple's current Mac desktop lineup is excellent, but it's substantially less excellent if you can't buy them! Knowing what I know now, I probably would have bought a reasonably specced 2025 Studio a couple months ago for personal use. But now that option seems to be foreclosed.

There's a fairly desperate shortage of desktop Macs at the moment. Many Mac Studio configurations - and most Mac Mini configurations - are flat-out unavailable, and the configs that are orderable are listed as having 2-3 month delivery times. apple.com/shop/buy-mac/m…

Spend enough time in any field/hobby, and you’ll start to develop taste for really subtle things. A weird one I picked up (without particularly trying) is lenses + image sensors. Every camera sensor “emulates” the concept of what’s called a Sensiotmetric curve. It’s a whole field that studies light-sensitive materials. On digital, linear sensors, it’s up to the camera manufacturer to choose the curve. If I had to guess, once you exclude smartphones, ~75-80% of youtube is filmed on Sony, often with Sigma lenses. Personally I can’t stand it; Sony has this green tint (esp in the noise + the whites), and modern photography lenses are too good! Much sharper than the human eye can resolve naturally. There’s a reason why so many DoPs purposefully “de-tune” lenses in hollywood. Canon is usually pretty nice, not overly sharp, but a little too red in the skin. Panasonic is decent, but leans quite magenta for some reason. Blackmagic (which I’m biased/partial to) has this interesting black crush which is noticeable. I hesitate to call it “filmic” because that term is overused/cringe…but admittedly the dynamic range *is* a bit film-y. RED cameras tend to look nice...a little sharp…but you don’t see them a lot on youtube. Makes sense; usually at that level you’re doing more commercial work. And then of course there is ARRI. Obviously the best, but who has that? ;)

@addMitt @hasanthehun I dunno, sounds like tactics that are widely used across the music industry. An unfortunate necessity given how social media functions now.

ah you’re killing me I know I’m a snob but…for reasonably cheap something like a flair + one of those nicer aliexpress hand grinders (whatever the current meta is) will be lightyears ahead of a nespresso. (you could also make a case for a moka pot being a cheap “alternate” option) if you want to go crazy get a dual boiler e61. I’ve had my ECM synchronika for ~7 years, it’ll probably outlive me. the cost is actually pretty reasonable over time considering they last forever.

this also warrants a longer post, but if you have some time on your hands you should look into the various Nespresso patents, first on the original pods, But particularly with their new Vertuo line. Meh beans but lots of care given into this perfect, persistent, addicting crema.
