@uiltexas @OfficialTHSADA @THSCAcoaches we require coaches to have various certifications for their sport, so why don’t we require certifications for coaches who run the S&C for their campus or sports? Just because you like to workout doesn’t mean you’re qualified to do that role

Private skill trainers who know their high school kids are training six days a week with their high school program and push them to come do extra skill sessions at night/after Saturday games/on Sundays are negligent.
It’s no surprise how injured / beat up and physically underdeveloped our kids are.

@JohnKruk @j_nothdurft Kruk! I'll be down March 7-14... gonna hit up a Phillies game. Can ee grab a beer or three??

I’m also quite impressed @JohnKruk made it to spring training. I assume he drove to Florida.

Things John Kruk has talked about in his first two innings back on the Phillies broadcast: - Cumulonimbus clouds - Adolis Garcia needs to hit the gym - Kruk hooked his brother fishing one time - Referred to JT challenging as "tappage"

@Simon_Ingari Bad leadership also creates environmental conflicts, which can also lead to good people leaving an organization.

A manager fired a team member for “poor performance.”
He listened silently, thanked the manager, and left.
Two hours later, the manager discovered that he had been doing the work of three people, and no one had noticed.
The next day, while reviewing the spreadsheet, the manager realized the mistake.
It wasn’t poor performance. It was the manager’s negligence.
The manager went after him and apologized.
He didn’t come back—and he was right not to.
There isn’t always time to fix things.
Bad leadership leads to more dismissals than any crisis.

@pbasilstrength 💯.. we do that for the track team on days they aren't already training! they come in shifts based on when they finish their practice. 15-20 minutes a few movements 2-3 sets 3-5 reps. good stuff @Coach_Carter34

Are Short Workouts Worth Doing?
"We only have 15 minutes to lift after practice, is it even worth it?"
You bet it is.
The key is prioritizing your most effective training tools and trimming away all the fluff.
Picture This
Players come straight to the weight room from the field or court.
They can jump right into strength training without needing an extensive dynamic warm-up routine since they're already warm.
All they need is two to four strength exercises paired with something explosive.
For example, a single set of heavier trap bar deadlifts coupled with box jumps, followed by two sets each of dumbbell bench presses and chin-ups will get it done.
It could look like this:
A: Trap Bar Deadlift - Work to a top set of 3 at 75-80%
B: Box Jump - 2x3
C: DB Push Press - 3x5
D: TX Row: - 3x8
About 10-12 total sets.
Do this 2x per week right after practice and you will retain strength and power.
The hard part is accepting that even volume that low can be effective.

Totally agree. On the flip side just because you didn't play at a high level doesn't mean you can't coach. Hell, some of the best coaches never even played the sport at any level past High School or College.
Coach Matthew Amburgey@MatthewAmburge2
I’ll die on this hill. JUST BECAUSE YOU PLAYED A SPORT AT A HIGH LEVEL DOESN’T MEAN YOU CAN COACH IT! Argue with a spoon!
English

And I will take this one further…just because you are a winning sport coach doesn’t mean you have any expertise in speed development or training for performance. Making teenage males “strong” is essentially a low skill needed activity. Kids are so resilient. You can be awful at it and if they are good athletes or you’re a great sport coach…it will be fine. Until you need more than fine to win.
Literally some of the absolute worst programs I have seen are run by head coaches who have won a bunch of games lol.
The combination of that type of coach with a professional performance coach can be a ticket to some high level success.

People always ask what makes DST different. Truth is, we don't run some cookie-cutter program and call it a day.
We actually sit down and figure out what matters right now for each kid or athlete. 8-12 year olds? We're building rock-solid movement patterns, confidence, and genuine love for the process—no rushing into early specialization that burns kids out before they even hit high school. High school crew? Speed, power, injury-proofing, and position-specific work to get them noticed. College & pros? Fine-tuning the details that separate good from elite—recovery, velocity, durability when the season grinds.
The coolest part? We've watched some of these same athletes roll through our doors as little 10-year-olds with big dreams... and now they're out there living those dreams at the professional level. Same kid, same work ethic, just leveled up year after year because we met them where they were and kept pushing the target forward.
If you're serious about long-term growth hit us up. Youth to the show, we've been doing this for 15+ years. 💪 #DSTfamily #BuiltDifferent"

Don’t wish away today chasing tomorrow.
ATHLETES: Play because you love it. Not for the rankings. Not for the scholarships. Not for the applause. One day you'll look back and realize the "little" moments were actually the best ones.

@educator4ever36 For the same reason we don't put algebra, geometry and trig students in the same math classes... @MarkHoover71. We differentiate in the weight room way more than in an academic core class. I do like the majority of your posts BTW.
Phoenix, AZ 🇺🇸 English

To my coach football coach friends- if an English teacher is expected to differentiate for a class where readers are anywhere from 3rd grade level to high school level, and the math teach has to do the same, why can’t the weight lifting teacher do the same in his class? Why do we have to segregate the FB team into their own class?

There wasn’t any logic waiting to move UM ahead of ND if Conf championship game outcomes are inconsequential. If Head to head was a factor, you had it all year. This isn’t a serious committee. It’s a made for TV event. Expand and get rid of the committee. BCS was a better formula. For ND, you now know 11-1 is the worst you can do to secure a spot in this current playoff format.

The @NFL is a bad product as the refs are horrific. All three games the refs have made it about them. Zay Flowers didn't push off... boo to the refs. @gannon_coach
