Slavery existed for over 5,000 years. Every major civilisation accepted it. For most of history, nobody seriously tried to stop it at scale. Then Britain did something different. It didn’t just pass a law. 👇 In 1807, Britain abolished the slave trade. Then it enforced it. For 60 years, the Royal Navy hunted slave ships. 1,600 ships captured. Around 150,000 people freed. And it cost lives. Around 2,000 British sailors died doing it. Then in 1833: Britain abolished slavery across its empire. 800,000 people set free. It paid £20 million to do it. Around 40 percent of government spending. This wasn’t quick. This wasn’t easy. And it didn’t start with politicians. It started with ordinary people. Women boycotted sugar. Hundreds of thousands of them. Thomas Clarkson rode 35,000 miles to gather evidence. A movement that took decades. This is part of British history. Not perfect. But not what most people are told either. Almost no one explains it like this. Proud Of Us is funded entirely by our community. No sponsors. No advertisers. Mehdi, first, grow a pair and let people answer your post directly. Second, you keep claiming that Israel is committing "genocide" on the Gazans. This is an antisemitic blood libel. I'm fed up with all the pussy-footing around an ugly reality. Here is the unspoken truth about genocide in the Middle East, the plain fact about genocide that most people are steadfastly ignoring. The Palestinians have a stated goal of killing every single Jew in Israel—and they have been trying over and over for 75 years to do exactly that. That is the very definition of genocide. It began with the war the Palestinians started on the very day Israel was created, when the Palestinians firmly believed that they would win, kill all the Jews, and take all of the Jews' land and belongings. When that didn't work, they began a string of endless wars with the same object in mind—killing all the Jews. In more modern times, both the PLO and Hamas have the same genocidal message baked into their charters—the extermination of the Jews. And the Palestinian people are clearly in favor of genocide—it's taught in their schools, they repeat the genocidal "From the river to the sea" chant endlessly, they send bombers into shopping malls, they fire numberless missiles randomly into Israeli civilian areas, and they pay welfare to the families of the suicide murderers blowing up women and children. All of those are the deliberate targeting of Jewish civilians, the exact genocidal crime that Israel is falsely accused of. Finally, Hamas started the current war to the death by committing their unbelievable atrocities on 10/7 and then promising to repeat them over and over until every Jew in Israel is dead. Can you say "genocide"? The reality is, the Israelis have enough firepower to turn Gaza into glassy slag and kill every living thing. But they haven't done that and never will. Instead, they are doing their utmost to prevent civilian casualties. To me, the Israeli restraint in the face of the endless genocidal actions of the Palestinians is remarkable—in their place I would not, could not, be so restrained. So don't give me any BS about Israeli genocide. Anyone with half a brain can see that it is the Palestinians who have engaged in a violent, murderous genocidal agenda for as long as both countries have existed. Unfortunately, "anyone with half a brain" clearly doesn't include the majority of the supporters of the Palestinian genocide … I can't have everything, I guess. And on the Israeli side, calling Israel's fight to defend itself "genocide"? Get real. • This is the only genocide in history where the people supposedly being genocided could end it today by releasing the hostages and laying down their arms. "Genocide" over, peace returns. • This is the only genocide in history where the people supposedly committing the genocide have provided over 475,000 tonnes of food to the people being genocided. • This is the only genocide in history where the children supposedly being genocided who require evacuation for urgent treatment are allowed by the genociders to be sent to hospitals in third countries, such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Egypt. • This is the only genocide in history where the people supposedly committing the genocide are required to provide water and electricity to the genocidees. • This is the only genocide in history where the people supposedly committing the genocide have sent over 18,000 tonnes of medical supplies to the genocidees. Providing medicine to your sworn enemies in wartime? Gotta say it. The Israelis are really good at war, but they are REALLY bad at genocide. • And most importantly, this is the only genocide in history where the army is warning the genocidees via text messages, emails, leaflets, and radio and TV announcements where they are going to attack next, so people can avoid being genocided. Consider what that means. That is giving up a huge military advantage, the advantage of surprise. And the inevitable corollary is that the lack of surprise increases Israeli deaths, purely in order to avoid Muslim deaths Let me say that again. Israeli Army young men and women are dying to prevent Muslim civilian deaths, and you are accusing Israel and the IDF of genocide? For shame. That is antisemitism at its ugliest. "Genocide"? Don't make me laugh. My best to all … well, except jihadis and their supporters like Mehdi Hasan. Grrr … w.
Mehdi Hasan@mehdirhasan

My entire timeline is full of pro-Israel people saying Piker makes many antisemitic statements but they can’t bring themselves to actually quote or link to these many antisemitic statements.

Egypt could have created a Palestinian state when they controlled Gaza but they didn’t. Have you called out the Egyptian government? Jordan also controlled the West Bank - Judea Samaria did they create a Palestinian state? Have you ever called out the Jordanian government. Did your parents tell you about Israel pulling out all Jewish citizens alive and dead in 2005 so the Gazans could prove they want to coexist. Have you questioned why Gazans elected a know terrorist group? I feel sorry for your situation but you have been used by your Arab leaders , the UN and weak Western leaders as a crutch against Israel. Why do all your Arab leaders become rich while you still suffer?Hopefully soon Israel will claim its right to sovereignty over Judea Samaria . You will become an Israeli citizen. I hope you embrace this if you genuinely want freedom and the opportunity to be the best version of yourself .

We learn the word “occupation” since we were born. It’s part of us, part of our identity. Growing up in Gaza you don’t fully understand the meaning of it because you don’t see soldiers at all. Occasionally they bomb your house but you don’t actually see them. I often asked myself are we really under occupation? Moving to the West Bank changed everything. You feel the occupation every day. You see soldiers every day. You go through checkpoints every day. You breathe occupation. And when you breathe it the way we do, all you want is freedom. Please God, allow us to attain this freedom without losing even one soul, neither Palestinian nor Israeli. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Since 2019, the ‘Smart’ Energy Council received over $6.5 million in taxpayer funding. Why is a partisan industry lobby group receiving any government funding? They’re the same dodgy organisation that produced false claims that nuclear would cost $600bn and be 4% of the grid.

Yes it does. My own prime minister in Australia ( I didn’t vote for him) when recognising a Palestinian state laid down some terms for Mahmoud Abbas to agree too. 1 recognition of Israel’s right to exist 2 the slay for pay program must stop in return for this recognition- he even referred to the recipients of these funds as Martyrs.

I know you grew up on Hollywood movies mocking Islam, Muslims, and Arabs, and the filth of Rupert Murdoch media outlets and many other Western media outlets, and that caused brain damage and mental pollution, but I appeal to any intact, leftover active brain cells in your skull to be fair. Here is the fact: the United SNAKES of America ("US hostile administrations, and not all American people") and Christian Zionist crusade terrorism started the carpet bombing of numerous countries in the world since 1945, including Arab and Islamic countries, and any of what you call “Islamic terrorism” is usually a reaction to your initial actions. If you do not stop the aggression, we cannot control all Muslims worldwide; it is as simple as that. Understand? I suggest having a mature dialogue over hostility; otherwise, the consequences of civil unrest will affect everyone.

WHAT DO AUSTRALIAN POLITICIANS PAY FOR FUEL? In Australia, federal politicians generally pay little to nothing for fuel used in their work, as it is covered by taxpayer-funded entitlements. Here is a breakdown of what politicians pay for fuel: Private-Plated Vehicles (PPV): Most federal MPs are provided with a taxpayer-funded car for which they pay a small annual fee (historically around $711 a year). All fuel, servicing, insurance, and registration costs are covered by taxpayers, and these vehicles can be used for personal and family reasons. Fuel Expenses: For these vehicles, taxpayers cover all fuel costs. Allowance Option: If an MP chooses not to have a private-plated vehicle, they can receive an allowance (approximately $19,500 a year) to pay for travel, which includes fuel costs, taxis, and public transport. Cost-of-Living Context: While average Australians pay the full price at the bowser, which includes a 52.6 cents per litre excise and 10% GST, politicians often hold debates on lowering these costs. In addition to subsidised vehicles, MPs can also spend between $9,450 and $79,475 a year on charter flights or cars, depending on their electorate size. smh.com.au/national/full-…

Why. These are my tax dollars. I work hard for my money and I actually like the fact I do. I am tired of my money being wasted. This is why fiat currency is in decline. We waste it and have no respect for taxpayers money and of course we will print more. Add in the fact the government wants inflation and fiat becomes even less valuable.

That is bullshit. I regularly see her posts and you might not know this but I can actually see all her posts. Show me the examples or point out the date of a post and I will look at it. Also you say regularly so there should be plenty of examples. I believe actions speak louder than words. So anybody can say whatever they want but we only know if their words are genuine when their actions back their words.

90% of all the Africans that were enslaved were raided, captured, and delivered to the Europeans BY AFRICANS. Before that, Africans had sold 10 million Africans to the Arabs during the Trans-Saharan Slave Trade. The Arabs castrated their slaves. Holding Europeans “accountable” for slavery is gravely misguided, and another attempt to fabricate an illusion of existential excuse for the consistent self-inflicted failure of Africans to self actualize. Europeans didn’t invent slavery. Humans invented slavery. Egyptians had slaves. Babylonians had slaves. Persians had slaves. Greeks had slaves. Romans had slaves. The English had slaves. Africans had slaves. Humans were the first exchanged good amongst humans. But slavery didn’t remain after the Europeans. Britain abolished slavery. Britain lost around 2,000 naval officers on the sea enforcing abolition laws on African rulers who kept enslaving. Britain paid around 20 million pounds to free all slaves. The only fully paid the loan this 2015. No one should pay reparations for slavery. It is not the sin of any one group. Africans shouldn’t use an event that occurred 400 years ago as an excuse for lack of self actualization.
Claudia Webbe@ClaudiaWebbe

Today at the UN, 123 nations named the Transatlantic slave trade as humanity’s gravest crime. Britain abstained A Labour government! heirs to an empire that trafficked 3 million Africans, could not say yes to truth The abstention IS the verdict. Starmer, history has clocked you

Dear @UN, Oldest slave trades: 1. Africans enslaving Africans: Thousands of years to today 2. Arab slave trade: 1000+ years to today British Empire slave trade? 1555 - 1807 Should Europe claim reparations for the Barbary Slave Trade in 1M+ WHITE SLAVES? North Africans enslaved at least 1 Million white Europeans in the Barbary Slave Trade, which lasted longer than the British Empire's trans-Atlantic slave trade. If the Caribbean and Africa want reparations, why is Europe also not entitled to reparations? Where does this end? Should Italy pay reparations for slavery in the Roman Empire? There’s something very simple about the war in Lebanon. If a state, any state, allows an armed group to occupy part of its territory and that armed group starts attacking an adjacent state, and if both the occupied state and the UN have failed to stop that armed group from attacking the adjacent state, then it should come as a surprise to no one when the state that’s being attacked takes matters into their own hands. This isn’t rocket science, and any state in the world would do the same.

When John Howard left office in 2007, he left this country with money in the bank and well over 200 days of fuel in the tanks. Who squandered the fuel? Come on in Kevin07 In 2010, there were 83 days of fuel under Rudd And by 2012, there were 60 days' worth under Gillard. It just got worse from there.
