I’ve struggled with eating my whole life. For a long period of time it was controlled/disordered eating that has changed over time through therapy. I’ve also learned that I don’t conceptualize “hunger” the same way as others. If it’s a 0-10 pain scale, my “hunger” sensation doesn’t kick in until it’s a 10. Sometimes that’s days. When I take my Vyvanse (which I’ve been on since 2013), I remember to eat. I might not be hungry, but I at least remember that my body requires nourishment. Sometimes I wonder if I’d have been diagnosed as a child and received proper intervention (therapy, medication, etc.), what my relationship with food might have looked like. Then, I stop and simply become grateful for starting the long journey of rehabilitating it before having children, for being able to approach raising them into intuitive eaters with a healthy, balanced relationship with food.

An area that’s often overlooked and underserved: the millions of women with ADHD struggling with food.

There is a concept in psychology called ​THE SUNK COST FALLACY. When you stay in a relationship not because of who the person is today, but to justify the years of effort you’ve already invested. Your brain tells you, "I can't let 5 years go to waste," forgetting that staying forces you to waste 5 more.
