I’ve today learned that my dear friend James Van Der Beek, with whom I worked with on The Rules of Attraction, who has been a pillar of strength to me and my family during the hardest of times, passed away last night. I knew he was fighting a terrible battle with courage and compassion, and I’m blessed that we had just recently had a very philosophical and existential phone conversation. I have never known anyone else quite like him, and rarely felt so close a working connection, and my heart is broken at the loss, and my thoughts and prayers are with his wife and children. God bless you, James. I love you forever.

@AVARY @BretEastonEllis @oasadi "The Rules of Attraction" is still №1 for me. What do you think of "Irreversible" and "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring"?

In light of Quentin’s somewhat controversial listing of his favorite films of the 21st Century while on @BretEastonEllis, a lot of people (like @oasadi) have been asking me what mine are. It’s an impossible list to compile, but “favorite” isn’t necessarily the same as “best,” so I threw together a list that should but doesn’t include the likes of, say, Master & Commander (clearly one of the best, just not my favorite) or The Diving Bell And The Butterfly (an achievement). These are the 25 films I’ve most loved this 21st century, and yes, I love my own film as well. Happy New Year to everyone!

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Yes, I have emphysema from my many years of smoking. I have to say that I enjoyed smoking very much, and I do love tobacco - the smell of it, lighting cigarettes on fire, smoking them - but there is a price to pay for this enjoyment, and the price for me is emphysema. I have now quit smoking for over two years. Recently I had many tests and the good news is that I am in excellent shape except for emphysema. I am filled with happiness, and I will never retire.
I want you all to know that I really appreciate your concern.
Love,
David

@hatenagscreens @AVARY Yes, he does. By the way, this commentator is a well-known Russian YouTuber who humorously comments on such silly videos.

@AVARY Does the announcer say Godzilla at the 19 second mark or am I just being an English speaker trying to understand a foreign language and mishearing words.

@AVARY It started snowing just like that as soon as we left the cinema. This film is a bright flash in my memory and an integral part of my entire subsequent life. I watched it 4 times in the cinema. I couldn’t imagine that I'd ever tell you this directly. Thank you very much, Roger.
