I have spent 15 years placing tech and GTM, currently data and AI talent, in US and EMEA. Here's what I actually see in the market right now, not what the reports say.

Went for a meeting in Kings Cross today and it’s kinda buzzing. We need to come up with a better name than the FT’s “silicon roundabout of AI”. Someone coin this please we’ll cover it on the show and your name will live in eternity
etn.@etnshow

"It's the second biggest talent pool of AI researchers outside of San Francisco." @altantutar says London offers something few other startup hubs can match, world-class AI talent embedded in one of the world's most inspirational cities: "I love the city. Every time I walk around Zone 1, I get inspired." "I went to a party and met a lot of DeepMind folks. I don't think that's going to happen in San Francisco." "You can get both. You can tap into the tech talent in King's Cross and still have the life you want outside of work."

@altantutar Thanks for sharing your first hand experience! The vibe and excitement in London right now reminds me of SF 12 years ago. So many awesome conversations in the most random locations.

London is the one of the major AI centers on earth, right behind San Francisco. Just think about all of this: 1/ Wayve (self-driving) raised $1.2B Series D at $8.6B valuation, with robotaxis already being seen in London. 2/ OpenAI & Anthropic launching offices in London, and hiring aggresively. 3/ Nscale raised £1.5b Series C for AI infra, building the UK's largest AI supercomputer with OpenAI & Nvidia. 4/ Ineffable Intelligence raised $1.1B at $5.1B with David Silver out of DeepMind being its cofounder 5/ Palantir made London their Europe Defence HQ 6/ Google Deepmind still standing strong at King's Cross 7/ Anthropic reportedly buying Fractile's AI inference chips, a company founded by an Cambridge PhD. The future is bright!
etn.@etnshow

"UK AI companies in the last quarter raised six billion pounds...3x what we did last year, more than the whole of... continental Europe combined". @Jameswise, Chairman of the £500M @UKSovereignAI Fund I on the UK's AI future: "We're working with some of the leading UK based and international venture funds and those relationships will be incredibly valuable for crowding in more money over time". "Should you need the hundred million pound round, the billion pound round or even the ten billion pound round... all the other public finance bodies we've got are looking at you from day one". "The UK needs a huge amount of capital to compete in AI. Luckily, we're going in the right direction... there is probably nowhere outside the US and China you can raise billion pound seed rounds like we're seeing here outside of the UK". From James's appearance in April.

This is the truth that so many are slow to pick up on. When I lived and worked in SF I often found myself surrounded but awesome techies, be that in the Gold Cane or Cap1 Cafe In London I'm meeting them on the tube, coffee shops, bars, parties and much more. The talent is 🔥🔥

Have spent all of 2026 building something new post-FaZe. Excited to join @ycombinator this summer as I continue on this next chapter. Ten years ago I was 20, moving out of the FaZe House in New York to our new place in Newport Beach. This week I turned 30, and I’m feeling the same excitement here in SF that I felt in 2016. Excited to share more soon 🙏🏻

Announcing $40M in funding from @sequoia and @a16z. I grew up pressure washing houses in upstate New York. Six summers in the truck, missing calls from the top of a ladder because I couldn't hear my phone ring. My co-founder Ben grew up plumbing with his dad in San Francisco. We entered home services because we grew up in it. I spent a summer inside TR Miller, one of the best-run HVAC, plumbing and electrical shops in the country, and their workflows were still raw. The first wave of AI in the trades was point solutions. One tool for voice, one for outbound, one for follow-up. Operators ended up with five vendors and more overhead. Probook is the AI operating system that helps you add points to your EBITDA and run your entire customer experience as one connected system, built around dispatch. Many of America’s largest home service brands run on Probook today. Summers Plumbing booked 2,542 jobs their first month with us, zero human intervention. Anthony PHCE ran 20% more revenue per job on a 50% leaner team. Del-Air more than doubled productivity from 10 to 22 techs per dispatcher. To everyone who trusted us early: thank you. Back to work. We're hiring.

What's your startup building and what's your biggest pain points? There's very few stories I haven't heard so should be able to share what others have done. And if you share a problem I haven't heard before I'll buy you a coffee Let's share and connect with other founders 🔽🔽

@paulg Our sports system to get people in early is great. Nothing beats the memories of going home bruised but feeling alive. Dad loved it, mum hated it 🤣 Throw in gaelic football and hurling and the injuries hit a whole new level 🤣🤣🤣

@NayrhitB Built something similar that also scrapes github repositories for tech hires and we have placed founding teams within 2 weeks off the back of it. Clients see 5 profiles and hire between 3 and 5 of them. Happy to compare our builds

I built a Claude agent that hired 14 AEs in 60 days. Those AEs are now adding $1M in ARR every month. We had 6 AEs at the start of April. They were drowning. We needed to triple the team. Fast. Traditional options - hire a recruitment lead (3-month ramp), use an agency (20% fees, mediocre candidates), post job ads (wait and pray). None of those were going to get me 14 AEs in 60 days. So I treated it like GTM. I built a Claude agent that does the outreach. WhatsApp, email, comp structure + growth story in our messages, why we are different. Fully automated. We send ~200 messages a day. To AEs we actually want. 60 days later, we’re at 20 AEs. Four of the five who joined this month are past $70K in closed ARR within their first 15-20 days. Two crossed $100K. The unlock - hiring is just sales in reverse. Target persona, pitch, objection set, conversion funnel.

What's the job market like, as a hiring manager trying to fill positions, or as an engineer looking for a new job? I'm collecting anecdotes and stories to supplement the data. DM me your observations + stories, and will share (anonymized) what I have. Feels like an odd market

Had my 6th knee surgery today and set a new heart rate PB of 27BMS. (Usual resting is 42BPM) Either I'm a finely tuned athlete or there's some investigation to do 🤣 Either way I'm back online and speaking to some amazing companies and candidates. Hit me up if you are hiring!
