People are deeply sleeping on Rivian $RIVN . Retail sees them as just another cool, premium EV brand trying to scale. They aren't just building cars; they are actively positioning to go head to head with Waymo and Tesla's autonomous robotaxi fleet. 🧵

Comparison of @Rivian to Apple is inaccurate. @Tesla is a better comparison to Apple. Rivian is more Android than Apple. They’re just mainly copying Teslas homework which theirs nothing wrong with it as it works.

Just did a 1300 mile road trip from Utah to Southern California. Surprisingly, I was able to use @Rivian's RAN 'supercharging' network the whole way. And 'Driver+' did 90% of my driving for me. (Supervised of course - since it's a level 2 system just like Tesla.) 10/10

@KnepkinKipper I guess they can be? Most Rivian fans I see are just EV enthusiasts. Rivian’s CEO also isn’t as divisive as Tesla’s. They’ve deliberately stayed out of the political fray unlike Elon. I think there’s benefit to that.

Negativity to Rivian in the Tesla community is bonkers. They are in a precarious financial spot but they’ve gone from best selling in niche luxury segment to designing the extremely well received mainstream R2. They are primed for making it at scale. Won’t be easy.

@brandenflasch It’s a lot closer if you factor in the color and white interior for the Rivian. Plus the 1-year of free supercharging at Tesla makes up some of the $1k difference. About the same price all-in. It’s great we now have choices!

I made it three years without going through an automated car wash. Broke that streak just now. Truck hasn’t been washed since February and with the highway miles I’ve been doing, it needed it and I just don’t have the time anymore. Goodbye pristine finish… I’ll have someone polish you up later. Might make for a good video for @OutofSpecDetail when it rolls over 100k miles. 😉

@ChapoGrimey There’s room for both Tesla and Rivian in the EV space. We need both to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy, it’s not one versus the other.
