On this day in 1978, The Goose was golden in the 1978 NCAA title game, making 18 of 27 shots and scoring 41 points in Kentucky's 94-88 win over Duke at The Checkerdome in St. Louis as the Wildcats capture the school's fifth national championship and first in 20 years.

This Lone Ranger Atomic Bomb ring was distributed by Kix cereal in the late 40's, for 15 cents and a mail-in box top. It was actually a spinthariscope containing radioactive Polonium-210 (one of the most toxic substances out there). A child would take the toy into a pitch-black room, remove the tail cap from the 'bomb', and look through a tiny lens to see flashes of light from the Polonium-210 atoms decaying into Lead-206.

More and more northbound waterfowl – like this colorful male Wood Duck – are arriving here in central Minnesota. The sun angle was just right to illuminate the duck’s brilliant iridescent plumage.

A male Hooded Merganser is displaying his finest springtime plumage. In the world of waterfowl, if there was a ‘’Best Crest’’ competition, the merganser would take home the trophy.

Meh. Not that good. Fortunately, subsequent albums were better, although none were as good as the albums released between 1968 and 1972. “Some Girls” in 1978 and “Tattoo You” (stitched together from “Some Girls” sessions) in 1981 were good.
