@SandyofCthulhu They mainly say that because Tolkien vamps for the first hundred or so pages of Fellowship while he figures out what story he's going to tell. But yeah, once it gets going it's one damn thing after another.

They think LOTR is verbose because they think it’s long because it’s in three volumes.
LOTR snaps right along. If you want verbose, read Lovecraft. He can describe a forest or a house in incredible detail. But since Lovecraft’s stories are short, he doesn’t get the reputation for being long-winded. Which, as I said, Tolkien doesn’t deserve.
Caveat - I found the Silmarillion impenetrable. But not because of lengthy descriptions.

Millennials are the elite generation because they cranked out 12-page essays the night before they were due. No ChatGPT. No Claude. Just lo-fi beats playing in the background, Black coffee at midnight, footnotes that were somehow correct, and pure delusion. Grade was an A minus. Period.

20 years ago my first time working on a TV show, setting foot on a real set, was as an intern on Season 5 of Scrubs. Watching the reboot brings back so many memories. The hospital is gone, the show (and I) now live in Vancouver. But it feels like it never left. Thanks @VDOOZER

There's a lot of possibilities here. Did he just do the normal course of treatment? If so, yes, we're all fucked. If he travelled and went far and wide trying to find any possible treatment, even experimental ones, or pseudoscientific ones that cost an arm and a leg just hoping for something to work, that is a different story. There's a lot of hucksters out there trying to separate desperate people from money they don't have.
