My hot take is that members of the LDS church who eat meat regularly violate the WOW more openly and egregiously than anyone drinking coffee and that all of the arguments about “comma conspiracies” or what the verse “actually means” are infinitely sillier than arguing about green tea extract in energy drinks. We love eating meat and it’s culturally acceptable in a way that drinking coffee isn’t and so we all ignore that verse or try to wave it away.
Gwyneth@gwowls

What’s everyone’s stance on the whole eat meat sparingly thing are we doing that

San Francisco is one of the prettiest cities in America. The Embarcadero is hell on earth, though.

@TheNotoriousBTP I think the stunningly beautiful parts still outweigh those neighborhoods! Also, compared to 2 years ago when I last visited, they’ve cleaned it up considerably!

@KyleTreasure Go visit the tenderloin neighborhood. That'll change your opinion.

@JamisonHuber2 I'm sure it does, too! I think she'll overperform this, but won't pull it out in the end.

@KyleTreasure I’m not convinced that Karianne will win but I do think that internal poll paints too rosy of a picture.

I don't want to add to the discourse but growing up, eating out was a treat and when I talk to most boomers about their lives, eating out wasn't something you did weekly. I think people sometimes feel like eating out has always been the norm but it just truly hasn't.

@KyleTreasure In the Kristen Dunst - Michelle Williams movie "Dick" it shows them going to a McDonald's on a school field trip circa 1973 & that was my experience in the early 70s i.e. eating at a McDonald's was once in a yr if that & you had to travel 50 miles one way to do it

@JasonPynn Yeah I've heard people talk about how necessities (insurance, healthcare, housing) are getting more expensive while luxuries are more affordable.

@KyleTreasure This chart is interesting. For all the angst about housing costs (which I get) percent of total spending shows things pretty equal — except healthcare & insurance nearly doubling.

@lizabeth_verse That's very true! And Utah has urbanized super fast since the 80s. Would explain the shift!

@KyleTreasure I wonder how much of that experience has to do with the suburbanization of our states. Most major urban centers had regular "street" or fast food for the past 3,000 years.

@scottew lol relatable. When I didn’t have a mortgage I was eating out more often!

@KyleTreasure I admit that in law school I got religion about eating out because (a) I had been working before that and had had more money and (b) I really liked the social break that it represented. But yeah, so expensive, esp. now
