@KimballCall @jkimballcook white socks aren’t *objectively not formal* because standards change. This is shown by Uchtdorf wearing white socks 30 years ago (fashionable in Europe) There is no way of knowing exactly what we will consider “proper” dress in 20 years, much less 50. Dress doesn’t impact worship

That's basically what I'm advocating for, but I don't think its wrong to give specific instructions. For instance, white socks are objectively not formal, regardless of how the young men feel about it, so it wouldn't be wrong to encourage them to choose darker colored socks. Especially in preparation for missionary standards.

“We shouldn’t encourage deacons to wear suits, belts, or black socks when they pass the sacrament. What if we scare them away from wanting to pass?” This line of thought has one crucial flaw: it assumes children are fragile and can’t respond positively to high standards. It’s the same line of thought that is crushing my generation; the soft bigotry of low expectations. We can welcome any deacon regardless of what he wears to church, while at the same time trying to create a culture where they feel empowered to rise to higher expectations of dress and appearance, thus honoring themselves, their families, and the ordinance they are performing. Coddled Deacons become coddled Elders become coddled men.

@DerekPederson3 a just government doesnt only need to maintain democratic legitimacy, it also needs to maintain moral legitimacy. Our government also has to maintain constitutional legitimacy. You could argue the situation pre Obergefell wasnt a legitimacy problem, but race discr. pre Loving was

The legal definition of marriage should reflect the values of the society in question. An essential part of the legitimacy of government is that it doesn't adopt culturally alienating and out-of-touch policies. So Democrats were right to oppose this in the 2000s.

It's not hard to explain how opinions on gay marriage changed. I changed my own opinion on gay marriage in 9th grade in 2012-13 when I had an English teacher who was in a lesbian marriage.

@cosmosadderall it’s the way that the Sadducees and scribes were the primary opponents of Jesus and not the Pharisees (many of whose supported Jesus), that the Sadducees pulled together a rump Sanhedrin to condemn Jesus, and then somehow the world decided to blame the Pharisees instead.

@JamisonHuber2 @BenMcAdams You don’t get why I don’t support an anti-choice, anti-labor, pro-Israel blue dog democrat? We don’t know the long term future of CD-1, why would I get pre-scared of our own shadow lol

That’s right: when it mattered, and even when I knew it could cost me the election, I stood up and held Trump accountable. And I’d do it again.

@Kylypso @BenMcAdams I know you prefer Blouin over McAdams but I don’t really get it. I cant imagine this version of CD-1 survives into 2028 and Blouin is DOA in anything close to a swing seat. Whereas Ben will be able to put up a fight in a redrawn district. IMO boosting odds should matter to dems.

This whole situation really disgusts me. Essentially LDS Sheriff Mark Lamb was encouraging (and participating in) an affair between his wife and another married man from the Church. This is why some excommunications need to be made public. azcentral.com/picture-galler…

@RobertGehrke Since that will leave the court with a narrow majority of new appointees, do you think it at all likely that a new majority will be willing to overturn the court’s finding in League of Women Voters of Utah v Utah State Legislature?

BREAKING: Chief Justice Matthew Durrant announced Friday he will retire from the Utah Supreme Court after 26 years. It means Gov. Cox will have appointed 5 of 7 justices in less than a year, marking an unprecedented revamping of the high court. sltrib.com/news/politics/…

Probably only 4% of the population ever says "LGBTQ+" non-sarcastically. Even many gays and trans people never say it. Every person who says "LGBTQ+" either always votes Democrat or never votes Dem because the party is insufficiently Left.

@sambbenson @azcentral he doesn’t seem to have any serious competition in the gop primary so I think this scandal probably won’t have any impact…

@KyleTreasure Her strategy seems to center on “he doesnt live in the district” & “he’s too moderate” aka the same attacks that have failed the last 3 elections. If I were her I’d try something new and go all in on redistricting. The commission is crazy unpopular w the base and it was his idea!

@Factoiddd @Legal_Fil Impeachment conviction in TX requires a supermajority, so it’s not as tight as it looks. Only 2/18 gop senators voted to convict (while the overwhelming majority of gop house members voted to impeach).

Paxton/Cornyn might join list of GOP famous primary disasters. Off top of my head Angle/Lowden (NV 2010), O’Donnell/Castle (DE 2010), Aiken/Norton (MO 2012), Murdock/Lugar (IN 2012), Buck/Brunner (CO 2010), and Moore/Strange (AL 2017). Cost them many seats, but never majority...

@Factoiddd @Legal_Fil he’s been plagued by financial/corruption scandals for years, culminating in federal, state, and impeachment charges. He was impeached 121-23 in the TX house but acquitted by TX senate 16-14. Archconservatives argue rinos unfairly targeted him. Wife filed for divorce (cheating).

I have worked closely with President Trump through both of his Presidential terms and voted with him more than 99% of the time. He has consistently called me a friend in this race. It is now time for Texas Republican voters to decide if they want a strong nominee to help our GOP candidates down ballot and defeat Talarico in November, or a weak nominee who jeopardizes everything we care about. I trust the Republican voters of Texas.

@cosmosadderall I am fascinated by the correct assessment on Mormon Twitter that he *thinks* he doesn’t hate Mormons. He’s just “lovingly” articulating the hateful things *his* religion supposedly justifies. I wish some of these people would realize they may talk about gays in a very similar way

Mark Fitzpatrick isn’t a unique evil. He just possesses less political sense. Anyone who peddles in bigotry: be it against Muslims, Catholics, Jews, LGBTQ folks, immigrants, or even Mormons, is not someone worthy of trust, no matter how much you like their platform
