A story on starting over. 3 years ago I was designing some of the most sophisticated buildings in the world with some of my heroes at SOM. Supertalls and museums, novel structural systems, a couple new cities, all in far off lands.

@MrScottHendrix "collectivist mindset" is an insane way to say "we used to allow small commercial buildings in our neighborhoods to add services and retail people could walk to." Read the Waller plan, read any city plan before 1960, this kind of planning used to be central to our communities.

So many problems here. Foremost is the collectivist mindset of Austin YIMBYs who seem to view ALL property as communal property. Here, Planning Commission member Maxwell implies a “net benefit” by continuing to “allow *our* corridors to remain vibrant.” 🧵

Sharp criticism towards the Planning Commission for approving a controversial East Austin rezoning from single-family to commercial use despite strong neighborhood opposition. YIMBYs frame pro-density push as aiding housing access while dismissing local concerns in historic areas

Will the construction industry ever operate off the same ontology? Solving the housing crisis is downstream of that answer...

The growth of all the towers in Austin is incredible and I love to see it… Austin currently has just one new light rail line serving the city At some point U.S. cities need to match skyline growth with transit growth.

For too long, our country has underbuilt housing in the cities and neighborhoods where people want to live — especially family-sized housing. Housing is the cornerstone of the American Dream and that the only way to save it is through all-out production. Incredibly fortunate to be working with @bobbyfijan @YIMBYLAND and @DeveloperHarris to build The American Housing Corporation and industrialize American homebuilding.
The American Housing Corporation@americanhousing

For a half-century, America has critically under-built family-sized housing in our most dynamic cities and neighborhoods, rendering them childless and unaffordable. It's time to save the American Dream. Introducing The American Housing Corporation.

We have vandalized the future of our cities by strangling development through zoning rules and building codes. Cities we love today, and the ways we live in them, would be illegal to rebuild as-is. 99% of voters don’t understand this.

Hot take: AI services aren’t a crutch, they’re an insanely strong go-to-market weapon in software. The best wedges don’t start with dashboards. They start inside broken, multi-stakeholder workflows where someone just wants the job done. AI-Powered Services are exceptionally strong counter positioning opportunities that are 10x better, faster, and cheaper. Often times when AI is the major unlock, it represents a huge gross profit opportunity to pay back CAC. The biggest opportunities have very specific shapes to them. Own the service → own the workflow → own the data → win the market.

16,335 pages and 3+ years of permitting review. An ungodly amount of time and effort wasted. This is why we don't have nice things—like trains. The best permit is no permit. Legalize building.

FEDS APPROVE AUSTIN'S LIGHT RAIL ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW!!! After 16,335 pages and 3+ years, the Federal Transportation Agency has officially approved Austin's light rail Environmental Review. With this approval, Austin can finally begin awarding contracts to build the system!

@YIMBYLAND And if we didn't politicize everything... crazy to imagine where we'd be as a society if we invested in infrastructure at the same level
