This is one of the BEST dryland Winter Canola crop I have ever seen grown in Montana since we started here. I will keep everyone updated on finally yield but I wouldn’t be surprised if it touches 4000 lb yield average. That is not exaggerating.
Variety is CP320WRR seed @ 390k

@Mick_Miller32 Also had the right fertility. Not lacking any P going into winter to help with root system, then adequate N, S, and B applied early spring. Healthy plant = healthy potential.

Check out this new pub on "Performance of Selected Commercially Available Asymbiotic N-Fixing Products in the North Central Region" from @NDSUExtension! I've been getting lots of questions about these, so this is very timely!

Group 14-resistant kochia from Saskatchewan is resistant to both foliar (saflufenacil and carfentrazone) and soil residual activity (sulfentrazone). Unfortunate news for farmers in the Northern Great Plains. Scouting will be essential moving into #plant23

Research finds water use by cover crops in dryland cropping often reduces yield of the following crop. Details of the climate matter here, but these are not solutions:
❌higher infiltration rates
❌cover crop mixtures
❌plants increasing rain

Great data out of @NDSUExtension DREC on why it's important to collect 0-3" cores to identify acid areas of fields. If you are only looking at 0-6" cores in long-term no-till, the bottom 3-6" is likely masking how low the pH is where seeds are placed. myemail.constantcontact.com/Dickinson-REC-…

A little concerning, AIM I’ve never thought was great but to see kochia with a high tolerance to sharpen is no bueno

@MJCrandell @az_farms Don’t forget the ability to pull 2 S-10s in tandem.

@az_farms 6000ish gallon water capacity with 2 Venturi mixing cones, can load 2 shuttles and top stack smaller 125 gallon shuttles on the bigger ones. Pump rigged to fill either cone. 2” hose. Lots of room in the middle to set boxes or AMS bags. Super simple setup.

Finally someone asking the important questions in a world where “sustainable and regenerative” should occur at all costs. Should they? The combo of agronomics, economics, long/short term ROI, and logistics trumps those terms all day. While actually being “sustainable”

I did everything you wanted - govt and consumer. Cover crop. Biodiversity. Zero N added. Precision farmed. This is the regenerative, sustainable, soil health, carbon fixing system you asked for. Where do I deliver it? And how do I get paid?
