I think Westerners need to reflect on their values. They find this discourse stupid when it's at the center of a cultural and economic shift. Ube is not just any food stuff. It's associated with Filipino celebrations. The "development" of ube recipes is a very Filipino social experience. We all contribute to it because ube is a symbol of our shared celebrations. Remember the ube cheese pandesal bakers of the pandemic? No one dared to singularly claim to have developed it. They understood the social dimensions of ube. That is why when someone claims to have "developed" a vegan ube ice cream, we are all up in arms. You obviously do not understand the important place that ube holds in our cultural heritage. You also do not understand the impact of the demand has on local supply of ube. So, sorry for your "genuine despair" about the "stupidity of this discourse". We are just outraged by your dismissal of the importance of ube in our culture.

@redditbutfunny My childhood cat would beat up strays to steal the food that my neighbor left out for them. He was fed plenty at home and an adept hunter, he just did it for the love of the game. At his peak he was 15 lbs lean and could clear a 6’ fence in one leap.

North American natives didn’t have “great wealth and treasure”, and the fact that they still resisted colonization doesn’t prove otherwise. @ClickingSeason Purple isn’t a color on the rainbow because it isn’t a pure spectral color. The color that you’re mistaking for purple is violet, which is the shortest wavelength visible to our eyes. RGB screens can’t display true violet, so the distinction in language has been eroded

Fast food prices have gotten so high that some sit-down chain restaurant deals honestly look cheaper now. Chili’s is offering a drink, appetizer, and entrée for $10.99 while a Chick-fil-A meal can easily hit $14–16. A Chipotle bowl with chips and a drink is pushing $20 in some cities. Even McDonald’s isn’t “cheap” anymore.

@Aelthemplaer It seems plausible that the traces of brightly-colored pigments on such statues were merely the base coat. If the artists endeavored to recreate the appearance of skin and hair as faithfully as they did other areas of anatomy then presumably they would start with the undertones.
