A plea. If you are a library that regularly provides inter library loans, please consider waiving the requirement that they be read only in the library. We have a pandemic on, and some researchers are vulnerable.

@tiger22378424@ianburton1976@MattHancock If you work in intensive care then I'm glad where you are is clearly coping. If you dont work in intensive care, then dont make sweeping comments about things you know little about it. The reality is hideous.
The help that came in the first wave is now gone, months ago.
@LG92tbmd@ianburton1976@MattHancock Literally is coping - is less busy than last year . Regardless - make more beds if needed , OR open the nightingales . Problem solved
Good news on the NHS just out:
There are 13,313 more nurses & 6,030 more doctors in the NHS than a year ago
We're well on track to meet our manifesto commitment of 50,000 more nurses over this Parliament
@tiger22378424@ianburton1976@MattHancock It's not coping though. It's not the general wards people are thinking about that are struggling, it's the critical care/intensive care bed pressures that cant cope, because there isnt enough intensive care trained staff for the demand, let alone bed capacity.

@johnlmoore@LarcombePeter@Injustice1987 I would be interested to know how that correlates to which hospital and how. Where I work we have additional areas set up for critical care capacity which are full because of covid. Be interested to know if the stats include these additional beds as normal occupancy capacity.
@LarcombePeter@Injustice1987 England's average intensive care occupancy is down from 84 per cent to 75 per cent (NHS figures).
Obviously that's an average and some hospitals are far busier than usual.
The tier 4 ruling brings more devastation to communities across the Buckingham constituency - when we should not have even been in tier 3 anyway. Parliament must be recalled, these measures subject to full scrutiny and voted on.
Today’s Tier 4 announcement will have been very difficult for many.

@Injustice1987@gregsmith_uk@SteveBakerHW The hospitals struggle with staffing as it is. It's all well and good saying use the Nightingale hospitals which havent been used. But there isnt the work force to safely staff it.
@IanSensed@gregsmith_uk@janekin24 Come work in intensive care and then decide if the NHS is coping.
It's not the wards that struggle always, it's intensive care capacity and the specialist staff who you cant just train up overnight. That's where the struggle and hold up lies at the moment.
@gregsmith_uk@janekin24 You MPs need to get a grip. This government is over reacting. It’s nonsense to keep saying “we’ve got to save the #NHS”. The ability of the NHS to cope has never been in question. There is total panic across government and the U.K. deserves better
@paultinay@gregsmith_uk Cook it all anyway and make your own freezer meals. Or portion it up and send some to the people who were meant to be with you and enjoy it together separately
@gregsmith_uk Is there any chance of compensation? We will now have to throw away food meant for 14 which will now be for only 3 people. It’s a disgrace to do this at such late notice.
@Injustice1987@gregsmith_uk@SteveBakerHW We dont have critical care capacity for every patient who may need it, individuals can deteriorate quickly with covid and without measures like this, then peoples chance against the virus is reduced if there isnt the advanced healthcare to help them, should they get that poorly.
NHS staff are absolutely brilliant but have suffered a pay freeze, under-funding and under-staffing.
Now it’s time to pay them properly, guarantee secure jobs and end privatisation.
My support to all of our wonderful NHS workers protesting for a pay rise today.
