My 2026 Iowa gubernatorial prediction: 🟦🫏Sand+1.8% A popular statewide-elected official in a Red State goes up against a Trump loyalist. Iowa has been trending to the right over the last decade, but the former swing state has been facing challenges when it comes to its economy and its farmers. Here's how I think it'll go. Rob Sand, runs an aggressive and a strong campaign. He hosts multiple town halls, rounds up big fundraising numbers, and made a good appeal to Iowa farmers, who have been grown too dissatisfied with Trump and his tariffs. He wins back some rural/farming counties & areas that strongly voted for Obama in 2008 & 12 then Trump in 2016. Randy Feenstra has some advantages due to the state's rightward shift and partisan lean, the backing of the GOP Establishment and Trump, but faces a VERY tough opponent who is proven to win a statewide election as a Democrat in a moderately-red state. He performs decently in some areas in his own district but he has to face challenges from angry Iowa farmers, an unpopular Iowa governor, and a shrinking economy. Overall, Rob Sand narrowly wins. Trump and Kim Reynolds have been getting more and more unpopular throughout the state due to a slumping economy, angry farmers, and school vouchers.

At this point it looks like more than a blue wave: it’s more like nuking the entire Republican Party not only on a federal level but state and then down to the county and town level. Just so you guys know I’m in deep red Texas, voters just flipped all four school districts near me to blue.

We all need to accept the fact that it’ll be really difficult for Dems to regain the Senate, even in a wave environment. Remember, Dems should’ve done well there in ‘18, but the map was skewed against them. This resulted in incumbent/strong challenger (TN/TX) losses.
