To all the new Husker fans confused by this: One in-state program has been consistently good for 20 plus years with one bad year mixed in. One in-state program has been the laughing stock of Power 5 basketball with one really good year mixed in. Hope this helps!

@conorsen Definitely a pain and they put up way too many things that individuals should not have a say in (prop 13...) but I do think this is a great use of AI. Here is what I care about, who should I vote for? What are the pros and cons of this prop? Perfect use case.

People who have never lived in California don’t realize what a pain voting in California is — so many candidates, all of the stupid referendums, and I guess if you google everything you can learn about each one but who has time for all that.

Let that sink in. In the long run, Measure ULA is likely destroying more in property tax revenue than it's actually generating in special funds, costing our public entities more money than it brings in.

It's well known that Measure ULA is harming new housing production in LA. But there's another cost almost nobody is talking about: it's quietly destroying our local property tax base – and public schools will get hit the hardest. I wrote about this in the LA Daily News. (🧵)

@SMMirror This is such a horrible take. I disagree with almost everything in this article. The only thing that makes housing more affordable is allowing for building of more housing. BUILD BABY BUILD

California has long taken a “one-size-fits-all” approach to housing. “These bills override local planning with a ‘build everything, everywhere, all at once’ mindset,” writes Bruce Leddy, SMa.r.t., Guest Columnist. smmirror.com/2026/04/sm-a-r…

Bc Measure ULA reform will get a vote on Tuesday it’s time I share a personal story. I was approached in 2021 by advocates working on a permanent source of funding for affordable housing in LA. As a big proponent of affordable housing, I was all in. What could go wrong? (1/11)

@ShaneMa01033790 @conorsen What are his incentives? SSI can't compete in a world where scaling wins. If you can't just use the models today v. 6 or 12 months ago and tell a dramatic difference I can't help you.

@ShaneMa01033790 @conorsen Nothing is a perfect measure but METR ability to complete long tasks is my favorite. TLDR capability of the models is doubling every 7 months or so. So economic value of human replacement work keeps doubling and shows no sign of stopping. metr.org/blog/2025-03-1…

@LeBrockSutton @conorsen by what measure are scaling laws holding? benchmarks? that stuff is pretty sus... stuff I've been reading suggests incremental improvements at exponentially rising costs. Could be that llms are a red herring.

@conorsen That isn't how digital ad growth works... these companies are anti-fragile and create new companies that couldn't exist without their ad network. Look at Meta's ad revenue in 2020 when all the large companies boycotted them for a period. Didn't skip a beat. Up and to the right.

it’s only when disasters like this wildfire happen that people start to see how broken california really is—philosophically, culturally, & practically. the state has been dominated by a single ideological framework for decades, completely out of sync with reality. this fire feels like a symbol of that failure, burning away the illusion of competence. sadly, countless people have to suffer before the system is forced to reckon with itself.

@kylascan I don’t understand why people are missing this but it’s just another specialized app vertical that Meta has subsumed. Instagram is the dating app now.

Most dating apps are having a hard time - and so are their users. Falling revenues, people not wanting to pay, and Gen Z seemingly uninterested in dating have led to collapsing stocks and circling activist investors. Their only path forward is monetization - but what does that mean for the demographic crisis?

@davidleavitt Because one works to accelerate a growing industry that strategically matters to the US geopolitically and the world for human survival and the other increases demand on a supply side problem that has been a major contributor to inflation…

@conorsen Is this tongue in cheek? Are you not aware of what is going on in the AI space and the insane productivity gains and complete changes to way of life that entails? If this is a legit take it makes me much more bearish for anyone that doesn’t live in a superstar city.
