@Rafa_Mangual Great job today with Griff Jenkins. Incarceration, a visible law enforcement presence, and a general law and order attitude from our leadership, works!

@RobertFreundLaw Lawyers need to stop disgracing themselves like this. It’s embarrassing and shameful.

More lawyers in trouble for AI misuse today:
Attorney represented a criminal defendant and filed an application to reopen an appeal.
The application alleged prosecutorial misconduct and cited quotes attributed to the prosecutor.
Only problem was the quotes were completely made up.
"The page Appellant cites to on page 4 for the 'legally inflammatory' statement by the prosecutor- is, in fact, the court reporter’s signature page, with no statements of any type by the prosecutor."
The fake quotes came from ChatGPT. A paralegal uploaded case materials to ChatGPT and pasted the output into the application. The lawyer didn't catch it.
But it gets worse: after the application was denied, the lawyer appealed the denial to the Ohio Supreme Court anyway.
And when he submitted his firms "AI Policy" to show he was taking corrective action, the court determined that the policy itself was AI-generated and was incomplete.
"The proffering of an AI-generated AI policy as a remedial measure in a case involving the submission of AI-generated fabrications to this court is, at best, ironic."
And two months after the sanctions hearing in this case, the attorney did it again, in another case.
He submitted a filing with the ChatGPT prompt embedded in the filing itself: "Would you like me to draft the next argument section (e.g., argument 1 – B on the 'nature of the charge' omission) in the same tone and format so your brief reads as a seamless multi-print memorandum?"
Sanctions:
-$2,000 fine
-Referral to Ohio Office of Disciplinary Counsel
-Must serve copy of judgment on judge of every court in which he makes an appearance, for 2 years
-Must include certification that all cases are real and verified, for 2 years
-6 hours mandatory CLE about AI ethics
-Must write apology letters to prosecutor, trial judge, trial defense counsel, and prior appellate counsel who were defamed by fake quotes.

So if I understand correctly, we should move towards a decentralized, vigilante law enforcement model. Taxpayers should be permitted to opt out of tax payments if they are unsatisfied with the government’s services. Finally, police officers are motivated by revenue generation?
Are these revelations the result of a middle school brainstorming session? 😂

@mkhammer Embrasssing and shameful conduct. She should be disbarred because this is outrageous.

So, how are lawyers being punished for this? People pay a lot of money for representation and court fees and the whole process, and they just use AI hallucinations?

An absolutely excruciating moment at the Georgia Supreme Court this week. Justice Peterson pressed state attorney Deborah Leslie over her citations to cases that apparently don’t exist.

@wil_da_beast630 This is ridiculous. She should be disbarred and embarrassed.

AI is getting a lot of young lawyers hemmed up.

@libsoftiktok Do I understand this correctly? A law enforcement officer was fired for suggesting that a law enforcement agency should enforce the law?

@washingtonpost A woman who was six months pregnant ingested pills intending to cause an abortion and resulting in the death of a person was charged with murder?
Wow. Fascism.

@MorosKostas Great way to get the average American interested in the law and the Supreme Court. 🙄

Now that's a question.

@Notwokenow Good for this judge. I think a 25 year sentence is adequate. Incapacitation works. I hate that this kid threw his life away, but he made a terrible decision and must now pay the price.
English

@washingtonpost “That advanced the interests of his allies?” Well, that’s certainly one way to frame it. I wonder why the Washington Post takes so much flack? 🙄
English

President Trump signed multiple executive orders that advanced the interests of his allies in the tech industry.
Now, his tech advisers are hoping to pass legislation codifying these policies. wapo.st/4rKFIKL

@NewYorker So you’re saying DHS is doing a phenomenal job enforcing immigration law and maintaining a very low in custody death rate which is dwarfed by the general law enforcement in cutody death rate in the United States?
English

D.H.S. is now detaining some 70,000 people in jails across the country, more than at any other point since the department was founded. Twenty-three immigrants have already died in custody in the current fiscal year, putting it on pace to surpass the previous one, which had the highest number of deaths in immigration detention in decades. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/1kAoC4

@Thefactsdude As usual, body cameras almost always exonerate police officers after allegations of improper conduct.

NEW: Hurst police release full bodycam after viral edited video sparks excessive force claims in school zone stop
Hurst officers pulled over Taneisha Thompson for speeding 40 mph in a 25 mph school zone.
She refused the ticket, threw it out the window and tried to roll up her window.
Bodycam shows Cpl. Morgan opening the door, grabbing her arm and pulling her from the SUV after she refused commands to exit.
Additional officers arrived and took her to the ground.
She claims a black eye, busted lip needing stitches and other injuries; her attorney alleges racial profiling after her edited viral video was released.
Thompson was charged with resisting arrest, speeding and littering.

@CollinRugg I hate these stories. Those poor animals. I hope we see some justice here.

JUST IN: Los Angeles authorities are currently carrying out potentially the largest animal rescue operation in United States history.
L.A. officials are reportedly removing an estimated 700 dogs and cats from a property in Antelope Valley.
According to investigators, the animals were in the care of Christine De Anda of Rock N Pawz animal rescue.
During the search, about 400 dogs and 300 cats were found.
Dozens of LA County Department of Animal Care and Control staff members and mutual aid partners arrived at the scene and provided medical aid to the animals.
"This is the largest number of dogs and cats that DACC has ever seized and may be the largest case ever in the United States," LACO Animals said in a statement.
