@JLazzy23 As an Oilers fan I just don’t understand how the ref at the hashmarks with no view could call it a goal on the ice. I’m not upset because logic says the puck is in but I think it shows a flaw in the system because if it wasn’t in, that still would’ve stood as a goal

@JLazzy23 I see your point, but id argue you can get conclusive evidence without actually seeing the puck is all the way crossed. Using some simple math knowing that the puck is perfectly flat on the ice and a perfect circle. (holy nerd)

@frank_seravalli I don’t think we’ve lost the spirit of the intent. I think we want to get calls right but this is a perfect example of how difficult it is to define some of these things in legal jargon. We agree that’s not offside, but we can’t all agree on a legally defined solution

We've thrown the spirit of the rule out the window in favor of granularity. This one "looked" clean to the hockey eye.

@GregBalloch Interesting! Very fair - you score on yourself then you deserve the fate of the own goal. Would create an absurd situation if it ever occurred & you could challenge though haha

@LeightonGoebel Former ref Dave Jackson cleared that up: Apparently own goals cannot be challenged in any way! Puck over glass, hand pass, etc - it all becomes non-reviewable on an own goal.

If Carolina scored on their own net during the delayed penalty, it would have led to my favourite yet-to-happen hockey moment: An OT goal that doesn’t immediately end the game.
By the rulebook, Carolina would still get a chance to shoot even if they scored on their own net.

The refs were awful. HOWEVER nobody can blame this on the refs. The Chiefs dominated the 4th quarter. The Texans imploded. Their special teams sucked. CJ stroud no pocket awareness. It was vintage Chiefs. Make every play that matters and let other team self destruct.
