The violence in Litan Sareikhong in Ukhrul district reportedly began after an altercation involving three intoxicated individuals and a Kuki civilian. According to local accounts, the men allegedly challenged and assaulted the civilian, and in self-defence one Kuki man retaliated. It is said that elders and parents from both sides initially agreed to resolve the matter peacefully through dialogue. However, instead of calm, tensions reportedly escalated further. Serious allegations claim that from Sikibung village armed elements began using sophisticated weapons and that houses were set on fire. There are also accusations circulating that these actions occurred under the presence or protection of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) and central security forces. These are extremely grave claims that require urgent independent verification. Further reports allege that civilians attempting to defend or save their ancestral villages were blocked, while armed groups were allowed to move. At the same time, some narratives claim that central forces are acting in favor of one community. These conflicting accusations are deepening mistrust and fear. There are also unverified reports that a large number of armed cadres have arrived and that bunkers are being constructed. Additional rumors mention the possible presence of Arambai Tenggol in the area. If true, this signals a dangerous escalation. The question many are asking is: how far will this violence go? If the situation worsens, those who are found responsible through lawful and impartial investigation must be held accountable. The protection of innocent civilians must be the highest priority. Violence, arson, and the use of illegal weapons cannot be justified under any circumstance.
