@jetreid @TheBTCTherapist Again, we can in a limited fashion. We could never refine enough of our domestic supply to meet our daily needs without a massive investment in our current refineries. I’m not trying to sound smart. Facts are what they are.

@LenInMaine @TheBTCTherapist Again I know this I studied oil and gas in college and work in the oil and gas industry. I’m just saying if you are going to try and sound smart and put info out there make sure it’s the full info. Too many people think we can’t distill any of our own oil and it’s not true.

That’s like saying you can bake a cake, but leaving out the part about needing an oven. Sure… you can bake a cake using the sun, but it’s dramatically more difficult, and dramatically more inefficient. The U.S. produces mostly light, sweet crude (easy to refine, low sulfur). Most U.S. refineries (especially along the Gulf Coast) are built to run heavier, sour crude which often comes from places like Canada and Latin America.

@LenInMaine @TheBTCTherapist Yes I know this, but this statement contradicts your first comment. Maybe instead of saying can’t refine the oil you should say we mix US oil with Canada/mexico heavy crude for OPTIMAL production. Our oil can still be refined in our refineries but efficiency takes a hit.

@X5676633619017 @TheBTCTherapist Is there a reason you left out data? The U.S. produces 13+ million barrels/day of crude. Then we Import another 6 million barrels/day of crude, and ultimately refines roughly 16–17 million barrels/day total.

@X5676633619017 @TheBTCTherapist U.S. refineries use a mix of domestic and imported crude to optimize production, as they require specific grades of heavy oil that aren't produced in high volumes domestically. We import *60%* of the oil we refine for a reason.

@LenInMaine @wreckrm @Biden19xt @EricLDaugh Sure, I get that. That fact is around 50% of adults have 0 retirement savings. I would hate to see how many live paycheck to paycheck. Teach them sure, but I live in the real world. Either we spend less early and let compounding work or more when they are old

🚨 JUST IN: President Trump officially launches the "TrumpIRA" program opening up a low-cast IRA account for MILLIONS of Americans This means they can get MATCHING FUNDS from the federal government in that retirement account "Beginning at the start of next year, every American will be able to go to TrumpIRA(dot)gov and open a new low-cost IRA account." "You'll then be able to access the same type of retirement accounts that federal employees enjoy through the thrift savings plans, which are incredible." "As part of the federal savings match program, low-income Americans will be eligible to receive up to $1,000 per year in matching funds deposited directly into their accounts." "For millions of Americans who lack employer-sponsored plans, this will be really revolutionary because they'll be covered. Nobody thought that was possible!" 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

@CWayneIII @wreckrm @Biden19xt @EricLDaugh “gov automatically put in” No. It’s ’taxpayers automatically put in’. Instead of funding more social programs, let’s build a country that allows those kids to grow up and be successful on their own. Let’s teach them fiscal responsibility.

@wreckrm @Biden19xt @LenInMaine @EricLDaugh Only one making sense. Now imagine if you were born and the gov automatically put in $xxxxx and it could just compound for 50-60 years. We could remove social security completely and to fund that for each child would be way less money taken in taxes

The debt is already through the roof and most of that is through mandated spending for social programs. That wasn’t my argument though. My argument was Social Security has been a poor vehicle for retirement. Aside from Congress spending the money taken out of every paycheck immediately and citizens not really having an account…just IOUs, it has a horrendous ROI, and little to no control over any remaining money owed when they die. Everyone would be better off with private accounts similar to IRAs or 401(k)s.

@wreckrm @EricLDaugh Technically social security comes from the *social security tax* you pay every week from your paycheck. But as we all know.. it’s a broken, underfunded system that relies on tax payers. Why invent another system that will yet again rely on taxpayers as part funding?

Where does Social Security come from? Taxpayers. You’ll at least get a better return on this IRA than you would with a social security. We should have been moving to private retirement accounts for citizens decades ago. But, now is the next best time with social security’s impending insolvency.

🚨 JUST IN: President Trump TERMINATED the Obama-era mandate that pushed auto start-stop systems into vehicles. You know the one. You stop at a red light. Your engine shuts off. Every. Single. Time. Doesn’t matter if you hate it. Doesn’t matter if it wears down the starter. Doesn’t matter if you have to turn it off manually every time you start the car. It was forced in the name of “efficiency.” Trump just ended it. No more government telling automakers how to design your engine. No more being annoyed at every stoplight. Build better cars. Let consumers choose. Common sense is back.

Jason Cammisa on part of the reason why @Tesla is discontinuing the Model S/X (in his interpretation): "The cost to reengineer the Model S to continue to comply with all safety and crash regulations would be greater than to start over, and I think that's a dying segment, the luxury car segment. You can look at the volumes of the Model 3/Y, and you see you're better off spending the money on developing those." (via The Carmudgeon Show). Full podcast linked below:

@ASItechgonewild @SawyerMerritt @Tesla This is such a silly stockholder take. There is zero chance that FSD competes with airlines. It is, And Will always be faster to fly than it is to drive. And in instances where it is faster to drive, you’re probably not driving that far.
