@HilarityjaneArt Why does a Vatican dicastery hire the same cheap PR firm that might be used by a third rate private college in the USA? Why does a venerable institution with 2000 years of serious philosophical and theological reasoning now employ cheap slogans?

I agree completely. Which is why the Synodalist, Bergoglian, VaticanTwoist religion is not the same as Catholicism.

NEW: Pope Leo XIV commenting to Sarah Mullally this morning on Catholic-Anglican ecumenical dialogue— “While much progress has been made on some historically divisive issues, new problems have arisen in recent decades, rendering the pathway to full communion more difficult to discern.   I know that the Anglican Communion is also facing many of these same questions at this time.   Nevertheless, we must not allow these continuing challenges to prevent us from using every possible opportunity to proclaim Christ to the world together.   As my beloved predecessor, Pope Francis, said to the Primates of the Anglican Communion in 2024, “it would be a scandal if, due to our divisions, we did not fulfil our common vocation to make Christ known” (Address to Primates of the Anglican Communion, 2 May 2024).   For my part, I add that it would also be a scandal if we did not continue to work towards overcoming our differences, no matter how intractable they may appear.”

Sarah Mullally, Anglican archbishop of Canterbury @ArchbishopSarah, will meet Pope Leo XIV on Monday morning. She will then join Leo for midday prayer in the Chapel of Urban VIII in the Apostolic Palace. Later she will lead Anglican Choral Evensong at the Catholic church of Sant’Ignazio di Loyola & commission the new director of the Anglican Centre in Rome for his post. Cardinal Tagle will give the homily during the Anglican Evensong.

@AuditeInsulae Yes, I grant you this. But note a worrying trend. When asked a straightforward question, he replies with contextualizing. So he is asked about the blessing of same-sex couples, and he contextualizes by bringing in the relative severity of sexual sin and social justice issues.

"Leo’s style, as increasingly demonstrated in recent weeks, appears to be taking something of Francis’ – be it a word, phrase, document or theme – and twisting it somewhat into orthodoxy. The American Pope is desperate for peace and unity in the Church and this appears to be his mode in achieving it." open.substack.com/pub/pelicanbri…

Fun fact - archeologists concluded that as early as 1200 BC the Jews of ancient Israel and Judah did not eat pork. When archaeologists examined the trash pits of the central highland villages where the early Israelites and Judeans lived they found a startling anomaly: the complete and total absence of pig bones.

@DHiddenness I am a devout retiree. Over the decades I have attended thousands of Catholic Masses. Never once have I heard a bishop or priest speak against contraception. Why is there a vocation crisis? We contracepted them away.

I too feel terribly sorry for the multi-parish priests and I agree this is a terrible path...but my God the hubris to dump the vocations crisis off on the "lack of generosity of spirit of the laity". FFS. Clerics who don't get it. No normal sane man wants to be part of the gay horror fest, and plenty of the ones who try get shown the door. And how dare anyone criticize parents who, knowing the horrors of McCarrick and all the McCarricks in the Church, say "not my son". Again, any priest may very well have a strong sacrificial and Christlike love for the whole world, but he might have trouble loving anyone in particular and really very probably can't imagine a parent's love for their child. So, yes, Father, we are here because of bad decisions, but let's just identify the decision makers, shall we? The Bishops. Dammit I am sick unto death of these clerics who blame the laity for the problems caused by the hierarchy. There are no good bishops and there are precious few good priests. “They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger.”

Aboard a flight to Angola, Pope Leo XIV noted that “a certain narrative…has not been accurate,” during his trip to Africa. He referred to the coverage of President Trump's comments about him, adding that his words at the Peace Meeting in Cameron were “prepared two weeks ago.” He emphasized the Church’s focus remains “proclaiming the Gospel…to promote justice…[and] peace in our world.”

Trained Catholic theologian here. In graduate school and my professional life, I have been told that Catholic teaching needs to be demonstrated as reasonable. Now that principle has been thrown out, and Catholics are required to embrace simple affirmations by the hierarchy.

Pope Leo says Muslims migrants should be allowed to stay in Europe and coexist with Christians, drawing mass criticism. "We all need to work together," the Pope said.

@latinedisce Jews, immensely so. Jews will not kill Christians, but Muslims are enjoined to do so. Also, Islam is a Christian heresy and correction is next to impossible to accomplish.

A potentially controversial question—asked in good faith: As Christians, who do we have more in common with: - Jews, with whom we share the Old Testament but who reject Jesus, or - Muslims, who accept Jesus as a prophet but deny his divinity? Curious to read your responses—let’s keep the discussion respectful.

Genuine question, especially for those who hold liberal views: If your worldview depends on ignoring basic biological reality, ie, men are men, women are women, Life begins at conception, what are your beliefs actually grounded in? Tell me below👇
