This women said: I sent that CNN article to my husband yesterday. We read it and discussed it last night.
This morning, I got home from the gym and noticed a man in a polo and khakis walking in our neighborhood I didn't recognize. He was walking in the opposite direction of my house, and turned when I closed my car door. I did not engage, I simply walked into my house and locked the door, letting my husband know there was what looked like a salesman outside making a beeline for our house.
I went into the kitchen and let our dogs out back so they could talk. My husband opens the door, and the man is immediately taken aback, stumbling over his words about how he's considering moving to the neighborhood and do we like living here, and immediately turns and leaves when my husband gives him nothing.
The way I bolted around the corner and said "did you clock that he was shocked a man opened the door after he followed me?" He had, noting how obviously uncomfortable the man became.
I promise you. If you think you don't know any women who have been harassed and/or assaulted, you simply don't know a woman who trusts you enough to tell you the truth.
Because if a strange man was confident enough to knock on my door thinking I was alone, I promise you he and many others would feel safe crossing other boundaries when another man is not present.
The women in your life are watching how you respond to stories like this and the ones in that article.
