This women said: I sent that CNN article to my husband yesterday. We read it and discussed it last night. This morning, I got home from the gym and noticed a man in a polo and khakis walking in our neighborhood I didn't recognize. He was walking in the opposite direction of my house, and turned when I closed my car door. I did not engage, I simply walked into my house and locked the door, letting my husband know there was what looked like a salesman outside making a beeline for our house. I went into the kitchen and let our dogs out back so they could talk. My husband opens the door, and the man is immediately taken aback, stumbling over his words about how he's considering moving to the neighborhood and do we like living here, and immediately turns and leaves when my husband gives him nothing. The way I bolted around the corner and said "did you clock that he was shocked a man opened the door after he followed me?" He had, noting how obviously uncomfortable the man became. I promise you. If you think you don't know any women who have been harassed and/or assaulted, you simply don't know a woman who trusts you enough to tell you the truth. Because if a strange man was confident enough to knock on my door thinking I was alone, I promise you he and many others would feel safe crossing other boundaries when another man is not present. The women in your life are watching how you respond to stories like this and the ones in that article.

@blegg2 @TrackGazette Gout Gout was educated at Ipswich Grammar. He was born in Queensland to parents who arrived in Australia years earlier. He is as Australian as Billy Hughes, Tony Abbott, Olivia Newton-John, Jimmy Barnes & John Farnham, althought those 5 were all born overseas.

Do you remember in The Lion King when scar told the hyenas if they helped him become king he will make their lives better and then their lives didn’t get better and he blamed them for it. And upon realizing this, the hyenas ate him. Do with that story what you will.

Women don't enter trades like men do because the working conditions almost guarantee a lifetime of sexual harassment and sexism, not because they're too weak to learn carpentry.

A previous older female coworker taught me to pause when talking or presenting in meetings if men weren’t paying attention (looking at their phones, not make eye contact, etc.) until they awknowledged the silence, looked up and became aware again- then to begin speaking again. Now I always do it and it’s always just as satisfying. Grateful for the women before us...

The men at my office think I'm a buzzkill because I don't laugh at their sexist/body shaming jokes. The number has reduced, but they say to each other "Oh don't say that, she won't like it". My strictness has led to men watching what they say around me and the other women in the office. Be strict. You're asking them to be decent humans and that is BARE MINIMUM.

“You’re so strict” Thanks, I’ve seen what happens to women who aren’t.

No one dances when anyone can be recorded at any time and humiliated. No one takes a chance to ask out a girl when the entire interaction could be used to humiliate him online. No one lives when everyone is surveilling each other. Animals living in this form of oppression do not reproduce.

“hey dude, how’s it going?” yeah pretty good, i’ve started to get this kind of gnawing dread every time i throw a little piece of plastic in the bin and i vividly visualise billions of people doing the exact same thing for decades but other than that pretty good, how about you?

Barnaby Joyce, who cheated on his wife, got his staff member pregnant, passed out drunk on a footpath and goes to work drunk, is lecturing Grace Tame on what's acceptable behaviour? Seems legitimate!

Do you get why people say "no one is free until Palestine is free" yet? You got a glimpse of what that really means yesterday with the police brutality, with the Labor Party's anti-speech, anti-protest fascism. With the destruction of our arts institutions and universities.

it's important to remember that negative thought loops, as inevitable as they feel, are ultimately as much an indulgence as junk food and laziness and buying things you don't need. you have to tell yourself no

The best thing you can do for yourself is actively increase your surface area for luck to hit you. Go outside, travel more, go to new cafes, museums, events, take a new route home, go for hikes, see cities, countrysides, take your notebook, speak to people, ask questions, start businesses go on more side quests. You can literally just do things, and the more you do, the more serendipity and synchronicity will find you.
