@JeremiahDJohns I'm an Xer who bought lunch most days our office cafeteria because the prices were reasonable. Now I bring my lunch most days because an 8 ounce soup is $4 and the salad/hot bar is Whole Food price without Whole Foods selection. My 401(k) thanks me.

The biggest thing happening behind the scenes in the "expensive lunch" discourse is that Zoomers are eating out at ridiculously high rates. It's a silent assumption for a ton of young people that restaurants are a basic necessity, not an occasional treat.

@ericwilson @doug_drouillard I'm for progress, which means data centers. But there's one in rural Bosque County, Texas, going up. It's not an ordinary building. There are multiples and they are ginormous. Fortunately, these are tucker further from residential areas.

Anytime you read "data center" replace it with "building with computers in it" and you instantly realize how silly this entire debate is. h/t @doug_drouillard

Senator Joe Manchin
Senator Joe Manchin@Sen_JoeManchin·
When Democrats wanted to eliminate the filibuster in 2022, I stood my ground because I understood the consequences of turning the Senate into a glorified House with simple majority rule. Senator John Cornyn said of Democrats at the time: “They'll soon find themselves rueing the day their party broke the Senate.” The filibuster exists to make both sides work together and produce good legislation that can withstand the test of time. Eliminating the filibuster would consolidate even more power into the hands of the majority party’s leadership — and take power away from the minority and everyday Americans. When I was a U.S. Senator, there was not another person more committed to keeping the filibuster than Senator John Cornyn. He understood the incredible political pressure I faced from my former party to get rid of the filibuster and give Democrats complete power — and at the time, he understood why neither party should take our country past this point of no return. The filibuster — the soul of the Senate — has preserved the Senate’s role for nearly 250 years as the institution that cools passions, protects minority voices, and demands consensus. America was built on institutions designed to resist political convenience, not surrender to it. It’s deeply disappointing to see that Senator Cornyn is now willing to scrap the very rule he once praised and personally thanked me for defending. These extreme election-year politics that put party power over everything else are why Americans are sick and tired of the duopoly of the two-party system of Democrats and Republicans.

Exactly one year ago, following the agreements reached in Jeddah, Ukraine and the United States proposed a full ceasefire to Russia. In the 365 days that have passed since then, Russia has not once agreed to any steps that would bring peace closer. Instead, it has chosen only to intensify its terror against civilians, including a campaign of attacks against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure during the coldest winter days. Russia’s actions speak louder than its words. They demonstrate that Russia continues to choose aggression and the destabilisation of global security. Peace can only be achieved through coordinated pressure on Russia, which requires principled and consistent action. The aggressor state must remain isolated, and any normalisation of Russia’s aggression is unacceptable. We call for increased pressure and sanctions on Russia, as well as strong defence support for Ukraine. Because this is the only path to a just and lasting peace.

Americans will pay $1.5 BILLION MORE at the gas pump just this week because of Donald Trump's war with Iran. California will continue using the tools we've spent years developing to help fight price spikes and lessen the blow from Trump's recklessness.

The reason people are worried Jasmine Crockett may not be electable is because she has next to no voter outreach, no canvassing operation, and her policy platform is an afterthought. Texas Dems have, in fact, tried running candidates like that. Many times. And they lost badly.
Javan Gonzalez@JavanGonzalez

Is Jasmine Crockett Electable? The honest answer is: we don’t know — because Texas has never tried. A Black woman has never been at the top of the ticket in a U.S. Senate race in Texas. That campaign has never been tested here.

Ambassador Mike Huckabee

When I sat down with Tucker Carlson on Wednesday, I was expecting a thoughtful conversation and that he would ask questions and give me the opportunity to actually respond--just like he did with the little Nazi sympathizer Nick Fuentes or the guy who thought Hitler was the good guy and Churchill the bad guy. What I wasn't anticipating was a lengthy series of questions where he seemed to be insinuating that the Jews of today aren't really same people as the Jews of the Bible. I'll first just say something I didn't think to say to Tucker, which is that Ashkenazi Jews, meaning those who families had spent centuries in Europe, are a minority of Israel's Jewish population, only maybe 35-40%. There are far more Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews inside Israel. But there's a good reason, as it turns out, that I had never encountered this theory that Tucker kept pushing on. That’s because it comes from some of the darkest realms of the Internet and social media. I think it's important to take a moment now and educate Tucker and anyone else who might get sucked in by this dangerous conspiracy theory, just as I have been educated this week. I'm sharing this information because it has been weaponized by very bad people to delegitimize Jews and strip them of their history. It's an idea that gained traction in the 80's and 90's with David Duke and other Klansmen and neo-Nazis. It has really caught fire in recent years on the Internet and social media, mostly from some of the most overt anti-Semites and Jew haters you can find. I don’t know why Tucker was so fixated on this, and I'm certainly not saying he knew the origins of this conspiracy theory. I don't know what's in his heart or what he was thinking. But I do know that the discredited idea that most Ashkenazi or European Jews descended from the ancient Turkic kingdom of Khazaria is bunk. It's also been weaponized by people trying to deligitimize Jews, to strip them of their history, and to call them "imposters" or "fake Jews." This odious conspiracy theory is peddled by the likes of Candace Owens and Nick Fuentes and by people who love David Duke, as well as Islamist accounts that make up false smears about Israel non-stop and are run out of countries like Pakistan and Turkey. But we know from genetics and rich volumes of written literature that the Jews of today can trace their lineage back thousands of years to the Israel and the Jewish people of the Bible. They are as connected together as genetics tell us that the ancient Khazar kingdom is to people living today in Turkey. And if Tucker wants to tour more than Ben-Gurion Airport on his next trip to Israel, I'm happy to show him places where Jews have lived going back to the time of Jesus Christ and even earlier. I sincerely hope Tucker will let me know when he actually wants to learn facts about the land and people. Asking me about conspiracy theories should remain on the fringes and not be the heart of the conversation.

The opposition to Waymo is going to kill people. Waymo’s self-driving cars are involved in 91% fewer crashes causing serious injury (or worse) and 80% fewer crashes causing any injury, compared with human drivers on the same roads. Partisanship should not come before human life.
Ed Markey@SenMarkey

Yesterday, I got Waymo to admit they are using people 8000 miles away in the Philippines tohelp guide their self-driving cars in the U.S.    This should scare us all. It must end.

I agree. It’s not my go-to genre, but it has far broader appeal than in decades past. A multi-act country version of the hip-hop celebration of 2022 — Shaboozey, Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson, Morgan Wallens, etc. — could be a smash.
sean the bacon king@Seanfucious

I don’t have an issue with Bad Bunny performing but the NFL should probably consider a country act next year. It’s an incredibly popular American genre in sales and the last time they had a country singer perform was in 1994.

@DallasPolitix @caraathome In my townhome neighborhood, that would mean my dragging my trash can 30 feet down the alley and having it stacked along a narrow road with 8-10 of my other neighbors, then remembering which bin is mine. And I'm not even in the middle of the alley. It's not practical.

@LisaLMiller @caraathome You realize it only affects alleys less than 9' , correct? That is a maximum of 24,000 houses out of millions of residents. New developments are not even remotely affected. The news keeps leaving out how it is only SMALL alleys.

@caraathome If the city doesn't want to service alley pick up, it should not have approved alley-served developments (ours is circa 2002). Outsource it if it's an issue. Also, our property damage reports went to zero when we installed a metal speed limit sign at the alley entrance.

It's hard to image that the city does a resident survey and the results show 93% of the people agree they want alley pick up to continue, even at a higher cost, and the city doesn't drastically change their course of action to reflect the wishes of the residents. As I said when this was presented in 2024, we need to explore outsourcing sanitation collection and/or allowing neighborhoods to opt out of city trash collection to hire their own private operator. Fort Worth does this and their collection costs are much lower. keranews.org/government/202…
