Sony is getting different lawsuits against them which seems it will be the only way something happens with physical games. The sad part is, Sony won't care at all from a fans perspective. Even if it loses fans, they don't consider it anything noticable and will make up money from the digital sales and gain new fans with time The biggest thing as fans you can do is support physical games when there are physical versions of games. There other stuff we can actually do though so I will make a separerate post about that later, especially in the EU. Keep this in mind!

According to Sony and many publishers, you don’t own your disc, you never did. Their terms can still restrict access or revoke licenses. That’s why we fight for consumer law: physical media was one of the last limits on this control. You will own nothing and be happy.

When I bought a Sony CDVD burner for my PC that said on the retail box to download MP3s and create mix CDs of your favorite music, did Sony expect me ... (1) ... to only download MP3s from artists not signed to Sony and burn them to non-Sony media? (2) to download MP3s from only Sony signed artists and burn them to Sony blank media? Or was that not intended to be a truthful statement? Logic dictates that if you're concerned with piracy and unauthorized copying, then why manufacturer, market, promote, distribute, and profit from devices that facilitate it?!? 🤨

From the 60 or so physical PS5 games I've played I've never had to patch most of them very few exceptions like Elden Ring and Stellar Blade had a patch. In Stellar Blade case I played the unpatched cause patch was censored

@unicronsROD @Theragingsparte @StopKilingGames Everything is comparable. If you own a physical disc, you don't own the game on it, you own the disc. If the disc rots, you're shit out out luck because you obviously have no claims to the game it had once contained.

@Dragoonglue @StopKilingGames They all need patches in some way or another because there's almost always something vitally wrong with them at launch. I'd never prefer the version on disc, unpatched. Likelihood of running into game-breaking bugs and corrupted save files is too high. That's the way it is now.

@Dragoonglue @StopKilingGames It's so tiny, it would fit on a, by now, antique Dual-Layer DVD. Yet the difficulty at release was so imbalanced and infuriating, even skilled players complained with the devs who then drastically overhauled everything. Games these days are hardly ever finished. 2/2

@dark1x Starting with the first HDMI generation of consoles, game releases as they physically lie on a disc have become mostly useless with games now being in dire need of day-1 patches and further honing in the weeks and months after their release. Exceptions are few and far between.

@dark1x I will nonetheless buy a PS6 under the premise that it still, for some reason or another, features an optional disc drive, e. g. for PS4/5 games and 4K films.

This year really feels like the end for traditional gaming. Consoles less affordable, layoffs galore and now physical media on PlayStation is dead. Really hard to feel any excitement for any new consoles given this - I'm sure plenty of you don't care, but it matters a lot to me.

So am I right in saying the superstation one dock doesn’t actually boot and read discs currently ? Mine arrived a few days ago and I have no luck with it
