Faith becomes a technique for “manifesting” invisible truths, even when those claims stand in direct contradiction to empirical and physical reality. This is especially damaging to those who suffer from long-term illness, oppression, or unrelenting hardship. The gospel was never meant to burden the suffering with techniques or accusations of failed faith. The gospel is for the poor—it is good news of a coming deliverance from sin, suffering, injustice, and death. Let us proclaim that good news, rather than wounding those for whom the message was intended to be a profound comfort and hope. Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas
