When a Democrat or a socialist or a progressive tells you that something should be "free", what they really mean is that it should be paid for by your neighbor. When they say, "we live in a society", they mean, "you are that neighbor."

The Right’s response to a wealth tax is always “but it won’t work!” What I find interesting is that there is rarely an attempt to argue against it on moral grounds, because they know most people find such wealth inequality utterly grotesque. There is overwhelming public support for doing something about this - I mean, LOOK at that polling👇👀 So, why don’t we crack on with the most effective and practicable ideas? We know that a proportional property tax, while a bit less flashy, actually works, so let’s start there! @FairerShare

With former financial trader Gary Stevenson advocating for a wealth tax of 2% on wealth above £10 million in a TV show this week, our poll last year found 75% of Britons would be in favour of such a tax Link in replies

@urpersonalgulag Labor is a source of wealth, but it is not the only source. Wealth is created by the combination of labor, tools, capital, knowledge, organization, and risk. A worker contributes value, but so do the systems and resources that make their work productive.

Workers are the source of all value. The wealthy do not create work. They command work bc they own the tools & land that workers need to survive. The work is still done by workers. Capital is a claim on the labor of others.
Brent Swenson@BrentSwenson2

@JohnRad15 Workers are a dime a dozen. There would BE no work without the wealthy. As for your failure to come through with a solution to what you claim is the fundamental failure of capitalism, I understand why you prefer not to do what you cannot do. It's far easier to call it deflection

@Locke_Wiggins Sure, as long as everyone has land access without structural barriers, then they could choose to rent. We might also timeshare in nice spots like the sea or mountains, though there's a good argument that those special places should not be for profit but a common wealth.

The US has more elders living in cars every day. We are not doing well. The rich are getting richer. The poor are getting poorer.

They keep using "woke" as an insult, like we're supposed to be ashamed of wanting people to have food, healthcare, and a home.

You should not *have* to pay constantly for land access. We live on a planet. Squirrels don't pay for land access. Bears don't pay for land access. Yet you do, in capitalism.

@Locke_Wiggins Excuse me? Where did that come from. I just read a couple of decent comments from you... the fact that I have kids and work demands and that takes my time and focus away? That's pretty normal I think. But capitalism's land control mode does cause poverty.

Drinking strong coffee, I am up so early in the morning, before my kids, because this is the only time I can actually focus. All other times I am working and parenting. Speaking the truth about capitalism, which is class slavery, and I mean literally: the forcing of our labor.

@JohnRad15 Say Bob owns land and builds an apartment building on it. Would it be ok for him to charge Joe rent to live in his building? Joe has land of his own, but prefers to use it for something else or hasn't saved enough to build a shelter on it.

@Locke_Wiggins A right to land, the goal of everyone having land access and not being charged for it by rent and mortgages. This would change the economy as a system to a much more equitable one.

@JohnRad15 I can respect that. If private ownership of land were limited, but productivity (including in the employer/employee model) and wealth were not, would you be satisfied with wealth inequality that arose from that system? If not, can you explain why not?

@Locke_Wiggins Private UNLIMITED ownership of land is the problem. Not ownership of land in general. We need to own land.

Yes, it operates by the specific arrangement of markets and conditions of capitalism. The markets are the channels of the flow of the money that keeps the many working for the few. That is why I never use the term "free markets" for it because it's unfree for the working people.
Herman Nurlygayanov@Nurlygayanov

@sergeanttheodor @JohnRad15 Just read the definition. Capitalism is private ownership of means of production. And the reality is, when capital is concentrated enough, few people dictate economically the lives of many. "Free markets" don't address this concentration at all, they exacerbate it.

Capitalism defenders justify low wages by saying "Workers are a dime a dozen" without even realizing that THIS IS THE PROBLEM! Capitalism MAKES workers so cheap and replaceable, on purpose. by paywalling land access so we're all desperatte. This is exactly how it works.

"Living wage" is an emotionally loaded term. It implies that anyone unwilling or unable to pay the demanded amount is condemning people to death. In reality, it's simply a demand that low-productivity jobs pay more than the market currently values them at, with the costs shifted onto employers, consumers, and the unemployed who get priced out entirely.

@itsblakexx no you're not. You're making your money available for investment in capital goods. That is a risk. You have a potential for gain or loss. Gambling is zero sum. Investing can be positive or negative sum, depending on the wisdom of the investment.

You're NOT "investing" in the stock market. You're gambling against hedge funds with better information, faster bots, and politicians who leak policy changes early. They just call it financial literacy so you feel stupid when you lose.
