I *REALLY* have to stop using browser tabs as a database/todo list. Whenever I see a cool topic for future exploration, I open it in a tab in an idea workspace. Without fail, something eventually goes wrong down the road and I lose months of ideas. And I... never learn. Ever.

@Xrayez @programaths One of the signs of a healthy project is the willingness to gut features. Given two projects, one packed with poorly-maintained features and one that has removed almost all of them, the latter project will likely be the healthier project.

@programaths That's one of the reasons why Godot leadership ends up constantly removing features from Godot now, like VisualScript: twitter.com/Xrayez/status/…
Andrii Doroshenko 🇺🇦@Xrayez

Godot leadership has decided to remove VisualScript from the engine! Problem still persists: #GodotEngine's lack of development philosophy, vision, direction, priorities etc. leads instability in terms of decisions, which further proves my point about #Godot. #CancelGodotEngine

@w3nji @80Level @godotengine I also find the notion that you just type words into the prompt without any creativity or artistic vision to be nothing more than snobbery. Many iterations and adjustments go into producing a satisfying result, and non-trivial manipulation to work them into something usable.

@w3nji @80Level @godotengine The negativity is short-sighted. It will be an explosion of creativity, not the stifling of it. Think of the billions of ideas people must have every day that are quickly snuffed like embers of inspiration. Given a means, these ideas might be coaxed into existence.

Starting to realize the real potential behind AI generated art. Just used Midjourney to replace the avatar I've been using for a decade. Took ten minutes of finagling Midjourney to produce output I liked and a half-hour to massage it into a usable profile pic.

Hence the importance of AI generated art to overall creativity. We'll see a day when these AI models are integrated as extensions into game engines like @godotengine, where they can be used directly, manipulated, or interpreted into full 3d meshes or sprites. Game-dev for all.

The AI art in the previous tweet is intended (after editing) for inclusion into a Missile Command clone that takes place in the atmosphere of Venus. Air ships doing battle around the planet. Without AI gen. art, this project either wouldn't happen or be limited to x16 pixel-art.

While there are valid concerns about AI generated art and the direction it will take us, my hot take on the matter is that the people fighting against it and arguing about the lost value of artists, are short-sighted and cannot see the opportunity this presents to everyone.

@kyletwebster @TitoShroom @80Level I see it as this: there's many small games I'd like to create, but don't have the time and/or skill to make the art content required. I'm not going to hire an outside artist for a game not intended to turn a profit. So these games will exist thanks to AI, or not at all.

@liquidsunlabs @reduzio I had a similar progression. As a really young kid, I started creating small games and programs in REALBasic for the Mac, but quickly found the limitations and used the Developer CD that came with MacOS X Cheetah to learn ObjC and the new Apple frameworks.

@reduzio Yes! "A rising tide lifts all boats". I made the same jump from GameSalad (GUI programming) to ObjC many years back and it was for the reason of wanting to do what I couldn't in GS. It will only accelerate as more people are introduced to the joy (torture?) of game dev.

@reduzio My hope is that the surge in popularity and attention towards the @godotengine, serves as an indicator that we're heading into an entirely new culture of game dev. One where the barriers of entry have been all but smashed. Now only to wrangle that pesky AI for content.

@reduzio @SquaredApe Let's not forget that Godot also makes a wonderful GUI app environment as well. I've built several programs in it myself and has become my default go-to dev environment. GUI-based (non-game) software dev absolutely dwarfs all game dev, period. Good place for Godot to be.

@reduzio @SquaredApe There's a pearl of wisdom here that isn't often touched on. AAA and even AA level game dev is a niche field. Forget how much money it makes, the actual breadth of AA(A) devs compared to the industry as a whole is miniscule. The majority of devs ARE indie devs.

@mreliptik_ @GersonFeDutra Apples to orange comparison. A better example is do you need to know how a car works to modify it well? The answer is yes. You're not just using a game engine, but essentially extending it by building a game upon it.
