@MattBruenig @Sheesh_barak @TheStalwart @xwanyex This is obviously wrong. Provided that it's legal to defend your own property, people would find immense value in a property-tax free property. They could reallocate some of their tax dollars and build an arsenal with which to commit their own violence. Additionally, there are

People sort of act like they live in a fairytale in which there’s a group of privileged land owners and then on the other hand the peasants who have been locked out. But in our country what happens is we buy land with money. You aren’t granted the privilege to use it. You buy it with money, like everything else. And the title transfers. You can save up some money and go buy some land yourself. High housing prices, notwithstanding, very large shares of the country are still homeowners. It’s not like this is an extreme minority group.

@dougboneparth Totally right, but you don't even need 72(t) for Roth contributions. Distributions of contributions are always tax and penalty free until you start digging into conversions (if applicable) and earnings.

This is rage bait. But get this. First, investing money regardless of where you’re investing it is a good thing. So, for anyone investing money in their 401k, good work. Keep it up. Second, there are tax advantages to using a 401k and, if you understand those advantages (and the tax code) a little bit, you can make your investments “grow better” or “last longer”. Third, there are so many ways to plan for distributing money from a retirement plan. From Roth contributions that can come out tax and penalty-free before age 59.5 to electing Section 72(t) distributions from an IRA. It’s a knowledge game. Lastly, you can invest outside of a 401k to further optimize your retirement plan. Personal finance has so many tools at your disposal to create outcomes that work best for you. There’s no one size fits all solution. So, it’s not that 401ks are dumb. It’s that you’re dumb. Kidding. You’re not dumb. You just don’t know what you’re talking about. Okay. Bye.
CHLOÉ HAPPE@bronzeageshawty

401ks are stupid. "Wow, I can't wait to finally have 600 thousand dollars at age 65 to last me the next 20 years. I'm glad I spent 40 years as a slave."

@_sn_n Random 18 year olds: In one breath, they're mouth-breathing simpletons who couldn't articulate a coherent worldview to save their life. In the next breath, their vote is entirely indispensable, and it would be a crime against humanity to deprive them of their say.

The federal government spent 7.01 trillion dollars in 2025 and here is a senator telling what they could do with 7 billion dollars if she could steal it from Bezos. If it’s that cheap why in the fuck haven’t you set aside .1% of the yearly budget to do it? Why should we believe you would do it if we just simply gave you more money? You wouldn’t you’re just pandering to idiots in the hope that envy will give you more power you self important bitch
Elizabeth Warren@SenWarren

Jeff Bezos has $222 billion. If he paid my wealth tax this year, we could fund insulin in America for everyone who needs it plus free school lunch for every kid in Texas—and have plenty of money left over. And Bezos would still have $215 billion dollars to spare.

@RockChartrand Take this and reverse it because the rich capitalists steal from the working class to build their immense wealth. Our parents generation worked half as hard for 4x as much as we do now for scraps. Most people are doing the job of at least 2-3 now and that’s what’s expected 😡

Socialists don’t want the rich to pay their “fair share.” They want them to pay their taxes, and then stay on the hook as an unlimited funding source for whatever new program gets dreamed up next. “Fair share” isn’t a number, it’s a blank check. And it’s driven by feelings, not limits or results. No matter how much is taken, it’s never enough, because the standard isn’t based on what works, it’s based on what they want. So it never ends.

@BenShindel @austinc3301 I think your definition of *very, very careful* is actually insanely reckless if you believe there's any case that the state should suggest a healthy-but-depressed person should die.

It's funny because I'm actually very sympathetic to the idea that euthanasia for depressed young people is something to be *very, very careful about* and is probably wrong in most cases, but like his maximalist claim that it's "state-sanctioned murder 100% of the time" is just bonkers.

@philthatremains @BladeoftheS I have thought of once you reach a certain $ amount of wealth you stop the business & forced to sale it. Go enjoy life. That creates the next in line mentality pick up a profitable business. Why does one person need to keep going and be a billionaire? Generational wealth is $100m

We don't need a Wealth Tax, we need a 100% tax on all wealth above a certain amount. Lets say $100m, that's more than enough. We need to outlaw outrageous wealth, not just try reduce it a bit. Billionaires are a danger to everything and everyone. As you can clearly see.

“I’m not saying that the suspect didn’t do it. His fingerprints are on the gun, that case is going to be made. What I do know is that NCTC was investigating any foreign linkage that could have taken place, not necessarily just to the suspect, but any foreign connections. We were stopped really early on from thoroughly investigating that, and from my vantage point, I didn’t see that investigation being done very thoroughly. The only thing I know for sure is that our due diligence was not done on looking at the foreign links. Considering how prominent Charlie Kirk was, it’s important that every angle is looked into and that a complete investigation actually takes place.” @joekent16jan19

@nadiatidona1 @isaac_saas Yeah but what does the crying baby really cost you? Airplane ambiance? Just put in your headphones like the other 225 people on board and ignore them. Then you don't need to be angry

This is not true tho. Children cry is the most triggering thing on planet earth and that's because we are wired to care deeply about children's wellbeing. It is very stressful to be exposed to children crying for long periods knowing you can literally do nothing to help soothe them. If your cry as a child was ignored, that adds a huge layer of trauma and emotional shutdown

A crying baby on a plane is an even better litmus test than the shopping cart. If it genuinely makes you angry, you have no empathy. No compassion. No soul. No ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes. You are the epitome of what's wrong with the modern world.

@verbaluced @charlescwcooke @NathanJRobinson the entire planet earth can trade with cuba. only one country cannot trade with cuba. It's hard to blame cuba's problems on the one country that doesn't trade with it.

The blackout here in Cuba is eerie and disturbing. Whole streets with zero light, every window dark, and then you see shapes moving in the darkness and realize people are trying to live their lives. I cannot believe how cruel this US policy is. We could stop this.

@TomHicks2LCF @Michael1Pet315 It's not unfettered seeing that God has authority over all governments and many have laws explicitly forbidding raping children, and it's also culturally unacceptable. But, yeah, people do have the freedom to rape children like they have freedom to commit sin: with consequences.

a friend’s boomer parents bought their home for $67,000 in 1993. Today, it’s worth ~$1,200,000 and he’s their only son so he thought he’d be a millionaire when they die but they just sold the house last week to enjoy their retirement 💀

When I was in Iraq serving at a very remote FOB not far from the Iranian border, we had steak and crab legs almost every Sunday. It was the military’s version of a thank you meal, and it was very appreciated. There are lots of things to be outraged at, but feeding our deployed troops well is not one of them.
