Life's Hidden Quest ✝️

@LordFlibble

The purpose of your life on Earth is to demonstrate you are worthy of an eternal one. And don't imagine this is "works" but humility.

if you were the Moral Law-giver and you wanted to repopulate "Heaven" after a rebellion where you lost 1/3 of those in it - how would you go about finding suitable replacements?

@ThinkLicence the challenge for drivers is to assess how quickly a cyclist is travelling - when head-on is hardest. if they can safely turn before without impeding you, no issue. this is just real time decision making. if you were travelling half the speed then different outcome is legit.

@LordFlibble The driver likely gave way because I made the driver give way. My concern was the driver did not want to. However you are correct (surprise) in that I was indicating to turn left, you may not realise that I was intentionally preventing left hook overtakes by riding primary.

@LordFlibble There is only one lane along this stretch of road, there is no lane to change from. The start of the cycle lane is seen after the illegal horn use. Quite how you missed this is beyond me, or perhaps I should not be surprised. Off you pop to the troll house.

The driver of Kia XCeed SC71 NDN might have forgotten that it is illegal to use the horn to bully a cyclist out of the way. Highway Code Rule 112 explains. Drivers: leave the horn alone unless there is a need, not an impatience.

@shillitz For people confused thinking that the law won't mean once you're in Spain you're in the EU home free, just being on the other side of some water doesn't mean shit. If they are allowed to remain, they are in Spain as surely as being in the middle of Madrid

Risk Assessment (Physics Edition): 🚲 Cyclist (70kg + bike @ 8mph): ~450 Joules of kinetic energy. Mild inconvenience, zero real harm. 🚗 SUV (2,000kg @ red light speed): 100,000+ Joules of kinetic energy. Categorically lethal. Yet people will blame the cyclist every single time

@ThinkLicence you cant change lane to overtake without yielding to traffic in that lane. video doesn't show her lane change but clearly impeded the traffic in that lane. your claim is it was an aggressive misuse of the horn by the driver but is not well made.

@LordFlibble If the change of lanes was so notable, and caused the driver to react, would you mind posting a screenshot of where you see that happen? Note: others have tried this ruse, without success, and have then disappeared back to the troll house.

If you're fine with people receiving hundreds-of-thousands of pounds in unearned handouts via inheritance, then don't you dare ever whinge about people on benefits getting £100 here and £200 there.

To illustrate how disproportionate WYP's action against the Ilkley cyclist in Menston was, offending like this is often given NFA nationally, or in this case, just a warning letter from NYP. itv.com/news/calendar/…

Every reply here is talking about the tax lost and how that will negatively affect public services. Reality, if they have taken their spending power to another country or transferred their £s to another currency, were have the £s gone? They don't just disappear.

@cremieuxrecueil conservatives think liberals are misguided or naive. liberals think conservatives are evil. if you believe your opponent is evil you are much more willing to dehumanize. that's the essence of it.

There's an asymmetry in how liberals and conservatives evaluate one another. Liberals dehumanize conservatives more than conservatives suspect. Conservatives dehumanize liberals less than liberals suspect.

In the US, liberals think conservatives hate them much more than conservatives actually do, while conservatives don't realize liberals hate them as much as liberals actually do. The hatred asymmetry is one reason liberals tend to win over time.

@SaferRoadsYorks if a car passed that close to you whilst overtaking you would definitely report it. don’t hold double standards. if a car driver got a fine and points too you would feel it fully justified.

@Arthasstormwind @DuncanStott the london family has had to pay far more for the same house than in manchester so... manchester should subsidise the london family because they are forced to spend more in housing costs... so living costs are more equal. it's only fair.

@DuncanStott But you’ve found a system by which a London family pays for Manchester family council services. Why not just subsidise food too?

@BushidoUK @pjcboro @cuddy271 @sainsburys @Tesco there's no corporate NI benefit in splitting roles into three persons. 15% E'er 2nd NI once earnings above £5k and even annual 8 hours/wk minimum wage is more than that. the challenge is that working fewer hours is beneficial both to employee (UC) and employer (OT flexibility)

Isnt it time supermarkets like @sainsburys and @Tesco who make massive profits were able to tell us how many of their staff have to claim Universal Credit? Which is effectively the state subsisding employers who offer low wages.

@tfostercpfc @julianHjessop post transition - no problem. it's the transition - even now who'd buy and pay SD whilst unresolved? Labour will keep this open until budget (Nov?) and then when legislation? April? Who knows. Better hold tight. Meantime a whole sector needs transactions to survive.

@LordFlibble @julianHjessop If it means a balance between a buyers and sellers market I’m all for it. And I am confident that not having stamp duty will actually promote transactions in the market, so I don’t know where you are getting your data on about a depression.

@tfostercpfc @julianHjessop yes a govt policy consequence that requires house prices falling to get any transactions. if you wanted to tip an economy from softness into a full blown recession, nay depression, this is how you could do it. the thing about falling prices is they become self reinforcing.

Between the announcement and the sunlit uplands of stamp-duty abolition lies a fiery pit of demand destruction. Housebuilders, estate agents, conveyancers, surveyors & brokers will need deep pockets to survive 6-9 months of near-zero revenue. The rebound then risks being sharply inflationary for those same constrained services. Governments have spent 20 years defending property valuations for the wealth effect - this looks kamikaze.

@LordFlibble Yes, as an "independent economist" I can confirm there would be a *temporary* hiatus in transactions before SD is abolished (assuming it is pre-announced). But there would then be a surge afterwards and, more importantly, a permanent increase in transactions in the long run.
