I once heard about a player who learned entirely via solvers and couldn't grasp the concept of a "zero-bluff" range. He thought everyone had to have bluffs because the output said so. In the real world, some people just completely incapable in certain spots. If you can't read the human, the math won't save you.

@NateSilver538 Specifically, there are huge portions of the country where "we are going to shove it down your throat whether you like it or not" tends to go over really poorly with regular normies

"It's coming whether you like it or not" is near-universally (and probably correctly) accepted within Silicon Valley, but is not something people outside the bubble are going to be easily persuaded of at all.

Opposition to building data centers might be irrational at the mircoscale (they're just gonna be bulilt somewhere else). But at the mesoscale, people are profoundly doubtful about whether AI will broadly benefit society and that's not so irrational at all.

@NateSilver538 Nate, any thoughts on how to weed out the restaurants with lots of reviews (sometimes too many!) and extremely high ratings, but then it's mostly just AI-bot posts? My worst meal ever was at a restaurant with lots of 5-star em dash filled reviews

@LowEloNobody From my view you can either keep EWC and those 15 players can make a living and it will never get better until EWC dies, or you can actually try and rebuild and make something good for more people

No Starcraft 2 at EWC this year is tough but its really not a devastating blow imo. EWC did a lot of damage by pushing other tournaments out and making everything about just 1 tournament. Hopefully now we can grow the community and grassroots tournaments up more.

@uThermal You're missing the part where 10 of those 15 players just won't make a living now, unless you think blizzard is going to start tossing money around. Will likely be the smallest prize pool year for SC2 in a long time

EWC meant that 15 players or so would make a near guaranteed living while ensuring that literally no other competitor had a chance to do that at all - a scene where there's a lot of passionate tournaments and not so much desperation about one specific one seems much healthier

While, as a diabetic, I am perfectly happy with bacteria insulin, I thought I'd look up how long 1 pound of powdered insulin would last a typical diabetic. (Please note that I do not take insulin for my condition at this time.) For a typical insulin-dependent Type I diabetic, it would be good for over 700 years (it's 13 million units). So those 10,000 pounds were good for a LOT of diabetics, and not wasteful at all - if they had been used for food, they would have only fed a few hundred people. Hilariously when I tried to look up "how long will a pound of insulin last for a typical diabetic" Google's AI scolded me for trying to "self-adjust" insulin dosages and lectured me about factors affecting an insulin dose. All sorts of irrelevant material trying to save myself from myself. Didn't give an answer. I had to go to Grok. Note: Grok cautioned me, too, but it also gave me the results.
