defenders of spanking will often do this motte and bailey fallacy where they argue that people who condemn spanking are equating "lightly slapping the wrist while calm" to "going berserk and beating your kids savagely with a weapon and drawing blood" the bailey argument they are making, which is what they actually think, is that parents should be allowed to physically hurt their kids. then they retreat to the easy to defend argument, which is "going crazy and beating your kids with weapons while your really upset all of the sudden and drawing blood from your kids isn't the same thing as lightly slapping your kids on the wrist" people who condemn spanking, are not arguing they are literally the same, they are saying lightly slapping your kid on the wrist is also bad, becuase the child doesn't understand why you hit them and it doesn't actually teach them that what they did is wrong, it just teaches them that you will hit them if they do that thing in front of you. they have to do this motte and bailey argument, because its much harder to just intellectually defend physically hurting your kids, thats why people will literally not even acknowledge that they are "hitting" their kids or "hurting" their kids and will use words like "discipline", they literally do not even want to acknowledge the literal reality of what they are doing, they are striking their kids to hurt their kids.

@BigthinkerBig @punished_bobda @quickdeletion @CristusVictor So for clarification...in your eyes, a guy who likes to abuse his kids by beating them...is the same as me, when my daughter was starting to explore as a toddler, and I would say "No", with slaps on her hand, as a way to discourage her from touching certain things

It's way too hot out there. The next Conservative government will reverse the aircon ban created by @RobertJenrick, which blocks new homes from being built with air conditioning. That's the one he's talking about here ⬇️

@PeterMcCormack In all the years of Lotuseaters we only managed to get one lefty @narindertweets to come in. I've given up trying for Brokenomics. There are loads of leftwing economics who could advance their views and I'd have a genuine discussion with them too.

@nekaishi I should write a paper on this. Moral context drawn form negative and positive experiences throughout society. The core of the idea is if a person gets both they become good because their mind has context if only one they become sociopaths.

One thing I’ve learned throughout my life is that people who truly suffered tend to be the most empathetic, thoughtful, appreciative, and open-minded people there are. They’re the strongest, and often the ones who make great leaders. They know struggle, they can handle struggle, and they appreciate the little things—because they’ve rarely had much their entire lives. They understand why truth and authenticity is so important A lot of people who act like they’ve had the hardest life usually had incredibly easy ones. They were spoiled, never faced real hardship, and weren’t ready for the real world. Babied their whole lives, they grow an unhealthy sense of self-importance. They don’t appreciate much because everything was handed to them. We often see them LARPing as victims for attention. I’m not sure where it comes from, but it seems like they grew up as the center of attention, lost it when they got older, and now crave it by any means necessary. Or maybe it’s some form of neurological problem like narcissism or other issues Many were given everything and praised constantly, so to them a “hard life” is not living lavishly with everyone kissing their feet. When that stops, they think the world is out to get them The people who really went through something their entire life and came out the other side? They’re the ones you want in your corner. They’re the ones who won’t abandon you or sell you out when things get even a tiny bit hard—because their entire life was hell

I think I'd be more interested in a Boys prequel if they made it so the heroes were actually good people who started out with the best intentions and it was that era's boys that were actually the villains. Through their distrust and suspicions about them, they would attempt to constantly harass, frame and destroy them. That mixed with the pressures of new celebrity causing them to snap in their own ways and become the terrible people they think they are. We already did the shiny surface level is just a smokescreen for them being terrible people, so why not flip it and make it a commentary about prejudices, expectations and pressures to live up to impossible standards whilst being sabotaged at every turn by people who just want to prove how terrible you really are. Ironically ending up making the monsters they wanted to fight.

FLASHBACK: Butcher strapped Madelyn Stillwell with C4 explosives to trap Homelander, but Homelander completely threw off Butcher's plan by killing Stillwell himself. In total despair, Butcher detonated the bomb anyway, fully intending to die in the explosion. Instead, Homelander used his super-speed to carry Butcher away, saving him from the explosion in milliseconds, he dropped Butcher right in the yard of that secret neighborhood to reveal that Becca was still alive and raising Ryan. i guess William Butcher actually owes homelander for real 🫤

Did you notice? When Homelander says to Billy Butcher, “You owe me. All the times I could’ve k!lled you and I didn’t. I let you live.” Logically, Homelander was right in that moment. He indeed had multiple chances to kill Billy Butcher during the first three seasons whenever they confronted each other one-on-one. If Homelander truly wanted to he could’ve killed him instantly but he didn’t, instead he saved Billy in Season 1 from that blast. That’s because Homelander actually had a certain level of respect for Butcher. And if I’m not wrong, Billy Butcher was probably the only man Homelander genuinely respected for not being scared of him. 🔥👀 🎬🍿
