That’s the UNION LEADERS doing this to the teachers and certainly not TRUMP. They should stop using children and put their energy into protesting the UNION LEADERS that make Thousands of $$$$ a year. By the way they used tax dollars to pay for this protest. Tax dollars that should be used for the schools or maybe a small pay raise for the low wage teachers.

Just so we are ALL CLEAR on what happened today... Educators and school administrators single-handedly CANCELLED SCHOOL for 700,000 North Carolina students... ...INCLUDING MY SON!!! To wave signs around in the street instead. The signs vary from: a) F**K ICE!!! b) Defeat Trump's Agenda c) Trump is a N*ZI d) ICE OUT!!! e) Protect trans kids f) Refuse fascism g) Stop bombing schools DO NOT TELL ME THIS WAS ABOUT KIDS. IT NEVER WAS. This was ADULTS using 700,000 children, INCLUDING MINE, as political leverage against a president they don't like. That is despicable. You know better... DO BETTER.

@DDFStrand I’ve only seen confederate flags in the south but I’ve also only seen white people and black people living together in the south. The north is heavily segregated by town and neighborhood. I’ve also seen way more interracial couples in the south too.

@ProtestRadio @NC_Renic @MentallyDivine Mine makes my kid do elaborate art projects for English class. I get the ai scare but his hand writing is bad and I’m tired of all the collages and drawings he has to do to with swirling handwritten text around it. They can still ai the answers and write them by hand

@NC_Renic @MentallyDivine I help my daughter with her homework and some of the teacher essay prompts are become ridiculously obtuse in their efforts to defeat AI use. It’s all getting pretty stupid at this point.

@Scott_Weidig @NC_Renic I can give a paper on a subject I know nothing about and not even read the paper but…it’s nostalgic to want people to actually know something about a subject instead of just knowing how to prompt an ai?

@Scott_Weidig @NC_Renic Why teach the subject at all then if they can just use ai? They need to move away from essays. Oral exams? My kids teacher has them write during class time which is sad bc it wastes time and you will never grow as writers if you can’t take time, revise and research sources.

@IrishNerd88 @NC_Renic Yes kids do. They don’t read the book or the essay they turn in. And people on here say somehow that’s teaching them to write and you’re a Luddite if you think middle schoolers shouldn’t use ai for essays

@NC_Renic Are people genuinely copying and pasting from ChatGPT et al? (Yes, that was intended to be ironic). I understand using AI to get ideas, structure essays and proof reading but surely people aren't prompting it with "write this essay"

@TelaDrin @NC_Renic I’m sure most of our papers from college back in the day would be flagged for ai. We were taught to emulate the academic papers we used as sources.

@NC_Renic Back in 1998, I sat my undergrad entrance exam in TX. I had a perfect English language portion. A few yrs later a history professor sent my essays to the Engl dept head to check for any errors b/c he couldn’t find any. The dept head said some punctuation could be disputed 1/2

@DontPanicBut42 @NC_Renic Nobody first teaches children basic arithmetic with calculators. Problem is learning how to write well happens at an age old enough that they want to access ai. They aren’t reading source material or ever learning to actually write. Ai helps people who already know how

@NC_Renic Have you considered changing with the times and relying less on essays as a pegagogical tool? This argument is starting to sound a lot like the people that complained when calculators were invented. AI-assisted study flows have evolved just as radically as AI work flows.

@ii_analyze @DavidLiskov @NC_Renic How can you really believe using a prompt to write instead of reading source material, taking notes and editing and revising is comparable? a student can type “write a 2 page essay on lord of the flies that sounds like a 7th grader” is the same as the student actually doing it?

@ii_analyze @PokeysaurusRex @vorombe27 @NC_Renic I remember in my math classes back in the 90’s we did many lessons without using a calculator, the point was so we could learn how the calculation works, for ourselves. Using a calculator would have defeated the whole purpose/process of learning. Essays should be no different.

@TomPMarshall @ii_analyze @NC_Renic Are you good with using ai for math too? How could you possibly asses if an average student read and understood a book if they use ai to write the essay? A very bright one will be able to tweak and use multiple prompts for a more excellent essay but still doesn’t have to read.

@ii_analyze @NC_Renic I agree. It means we need to change the way we assess students. We have to assume they are going to use AI and encourage them to use it to best effect. Unfortunately, this is something of a challenge for us. Many of my colleagues are still living in the pre-AI past.

Here's what's going on: >Gen Z women don't drink or party Your average Gen Z girl is highly neurotic, behind on her social development, and stays plugged into her phone all day where she tweets sonnets about how bad she wants to be married and pregnant. But what she doesn't do is step outside, booze, and get laid. This is frustrating to Gen Z men who would very much like to get laid. >So who does drink and party? Millennial women. And, to the Gen Z bros' pleasant surprise, Modern Millennial Woman is frustrated with her traditional dating pool (similarly aged and/or older men) who she sees as having betrayed her. So when the ladies get together for Millennial Girls Night, they start whispering that young guys are really where it's at and thus encourage in each other a side-quest into Sensitive Young Man Dick. And now you have the beginnings of a social trend. >It's the frigidity of Gen Z women that is the prime mover. >Gen Z men are adjusting and going to the next best thing. >Millennial women, as the gatekeepers to sex, are saying "why the hell not" and validating similar shoulder-shrugs in their single, jaded ladyfriends. >Insane NYT lib chicks are doing what they do and interpreting all of this through the lens of "we're so hot the young'uns can't resist us". And, as usual, Atticus has now given you a better explanation of the world than the New York Times ever could.

The young men are looking for sugar mommas. Single professional women with $$ on dating apps who are 38-42 have plenty of fairly aimless men around 25-32 chatting them up.

@AlwaysrightET @ShayWoulahan Are you be deliberately obtuse or do you lack all reading comprehension? The post was not advocating old school caning for being bad in class. It’s advocating special snowflake learning for boys so they can be energetic and wild but still learn. School never did that.

If you travelled 100 years ago into the past and visited an elite school for boys run by men you wouldn’t find male teachers with an abundance of patience and understanding for male students. You’d find a hardass with a cane beating them until they sat down and shut up.
doomer@uncledoomer

i think the reason bright, energetic young men butt heads with schoolteachers, overwhelmingly women, is teachers simply have no theory of mind for male students, or arent willing to find the patience necessary to teach boys, whose learning styles are significantly higher variance

@zhiheather @uncledoomer That is precisely it. And I think the environment and tech has caused attention issues. Disruptive and low iq boys went into manual labor. They weren’t being forced to learn algebra. The smart wild ones were threatened by male teachers if the misbehaved.

@uncledoomer Sitting still paying attention in class has been a feature of school since long before girls were allowed to go to school. The main thing that has changed is that you're no longer allowed to beat or kick out the boys who can't do so. 🤷‍♀️

Just to be clear: your assertion here is that all DEI has ever done has been to make it possible for people who aren't white males to be interviewed, while post-interview staffing/admissions decisions themselves have always continued to be made solely on the basis of merit?

before DEI, only white men were even interviewed. DEI was instituted to at least make interviews possible for non-white men; & to everyone's surprise, or no one's, once the playing field was leveled women & persons of color began to be hired. naturally, white men were miffed. not fair! when it's sheer cold-blind merit, all benefit. T***p had to remove DEI & replace it with his own brand of DEI: T***p loyalists. that is sole requirement for advancement in T***pDarkAge.
Missy Cramer@CramerMissy

@NYPoliticalMom So we all see you are too dumb to understand DEI and its consequences. Thanks to DEI (Didn't Earn It) literally everyone doubts the ability of minorities since they often, under such policies, are selected without consideration of merit. That's not racism, that's fact.

Every time I post something about poorly behaved students, people will comment something to the effect of the below, implying that it is mainly or solely the kids with bad home lives that are misbehaving. But this isn’t true. And it’s pretty insulting.
Mr. Stooks@MrStooks

@JamesAFurey You mean to tell me that the kids most likely to have poor home lives, food insecurity and broken families are more likely to go to the building with their only reliable meals and adults who are trying to help them? We're breaking some new ground. Move over, Copernicus!
