Talarico winning in Texas is no fantasy. He's polling better than any Dem Senate nominee at this point since 2002. Unlike O'Rourke in 2018, Talarico's ahead now. Paxton's much less popular than Cruz was. Trump is less popular now than in 2018. The GOP is right to be scared.

There are lots of perfectly good reasons to order DoorDash rather than be maximally thrifty, but people should know the option to spend less money is very much available. Eat an apple. Keep some tuna in your pantry. slowboring.com/p/doordash-and…

I think “home cooked meals” conjures up a lot of very aspirational cooking, but when I was young and DoorDash didn’t exist I ate a lot of microwave burritos and like “grate some cheese on pasta with a jarred sauce.”
Taylor Lorenz@TaylorLorenz

This is bc they do not have the time or capacity to create home cooked meals. It’s an issue countless ppl have tried to raise w leftists but big leftists online continue to shame/abuse poor ppl for being forced to rely on these services for meals, which act as a tax on the poor

One thing that is standing out to me: despite the extreme WWBs leading to the impending El Niño, the WPAC HAS NOT cooled down with upwelling... In fact, it looks like the amount of oceanic heat in the Pacific is infinite... And the ENTIRE ocean is boiling.

EL NIÑO WATCH: Issued by Climate Prediction Center today saying 82% chance of El Niño developing May-July of this year & 96% chance continuing through winter (Dec. 2026-Feb 2027). Peak strength is uncertain. El Niño: warmer than average sea surface temps in equatorial Pacific.

Very important lesson for Blue Cities here: Every change Lurie has made has been opposed by screaming, bullying activists -- ignoring them has been the path to policy success and extremely high popularity. @skaushik100 sfchronicle.com/election/artic…

This seems to be the strongest Niño that the NMME has predicted in its May forecasts. Certainly dwarfs those forecast in 2023 and even 2015. Obviously, we'll see how it actually verifies, but it's another indicator we could be seeing a very high-end event coming.

New NMME modeling shows the *strongest El Niño on record* unfolding from October 2026 through at least January 2027. Sea temperatures in the central equatorial Pacific are forecast to soar 3.1˚C above average, reaching a peak in November.

We could be heading for a +3°C “Godzilla” super El Niño so fasten your seatbelts. On top of long-term global warming, this could push parts of the climate system into completely new territory. The Pacific is warming at record rates.

Went to Disney a couple of years ago with the kids. Was struck by the adults mesmerized by the place, almost like they were on a secular Hajj of some sort. Took weeks of research to figure out how to game the convoluted ride booking systems, in a place made too busy and too expensive by people who should be doing better things with their money and lives. We won't be going back anytime soon.
The New Yorker@NewYorker

For the most devoted fans, Disney has engineered an ecosystem of financial entanglement that goes far deeper than park tickets or merchandise, which keeps the magic—and the debt—perpetually compounding. In 2023, Ashley, a freshman at Quinnipiac University, in Connecticut, had $15,000 in her bank account. Excited by her newfound freedom as a college student, she decided to start going on solo trips. Walt Disney World, in Orlando, Florida, seemed like an obvious choice. She went during her winter break. Then she returned, six times, in two years. Soon enough, her account balance had dwindled to just five dollars. Perhaps unsurprisingly, many adults who have accumulated Disney debt seem to be chasing a feeling from their childhoods. One woman, who has been to Disney World more than a hundred times, said that visiting the parks takes her back to a time when she had fewer worries: “It’s the nostalgic feeling of what brought you joy when you were little and you didn’t have the stressors of adult life.” Read more about the Disney adults putting themselves in debt for the pursuit of magic: newyorkermag.visitlink.me/_JqtFg

Ted Lasso is coded as a midwest Christian white dude, but also totally loves abortion and affirming gay lifestyles. He's the liberal wet dream of the "good" Christian, the one without all icky parts. A lovable idiot. Safe. He'll offer no judgement but be the personification of milquetoast Christian platitudes. All forgiveness and no justice. A reverse caricature meant to give the viewer fuzzy feelings about themselves as they look in the mirror. If he existed in real life, everyone would despise him or ignore him. Which is one reason the show falls flat so often and ran out of steam, and why any morality learned from it will be shallow.
John Ʌ Konrad V@johnkonrad

“As modern progressives not going to church we have to do more to inculcated moral lessons in our kids,” Ryan Holiday “We watch Ted Lasso with our kids,” NYTimes science reporter “Yes!" 🥴🥴

@TolentinoTeach Nobody should be made to pee on the floor or bleed on their clothes and chair, in front of an entire group of peers, but as you don't have periods--you probably don't get it, bruh.

Most people who don’t work in schools can’t fully understand why teachers sometimes restrict bathroom use. From the outside, it gets framed as a “bathroom rights” issue, as if teachers are simply being unreasonable or dismissive of students’ needs. Here’s the reality: There are schools where students can use the bathroom freely with no problems. And there are schools where, if you allow unrestricted access, mayhem ensues. -Students leave for 40-minute stretches. -Student wander into other classrooms and throw water balloons. -Students vape. -Students meet each other and box in the bathroom (with gloves). -Students scream through the halls as they run past rooms. -I can go on with another 2,000 issues. What looks like a simple policy decision (from an adult's perspective) is actually quite complicated. Once again, if you are not working in a school--you probably don't get it, bruh.

There's such an asymmetry on the left and right in terms of theory of mind. We (the political right) can perfectly articulate every single left/leftist talking point - we can explain their entire worldview in a way they would agree with. They can't do the same for us - not even remotely.

I hate to admit it, but he’s right. I live in a small town. MAGA country. Our younger kids attended a k-8 Christian school. Our older kids went to the public school. The school board members are all Christian and were mostly elected on a post 2020, anti-woke, anti-trans platform. That was very reassuring to learn. But the teachers are all educated in the university system. My oldest daughter said it was like a funeral the day after the election in 2024. My youngest daughter couldn’t take the subtle propaganda anymore so we homeschool now.

It’s likely that the majority of public school teachers you leave your kids with all day agree with this guy
