@Chris_arnade Wealth inequality is crazy in Europe. For those about to link me GINI data showing that the US is worse, that’s income inequality, which despite sounding similar is completely different and mostly irrelevant.

This is another example of why walking across an entire city, or a region passing through cities, gives you a better understanding of a place. When you walk across Milan, or from Dusseldorf to Bonn, you see that Europe isn't nearly as economically wealthy as the US. If you stick to tourist centers -- London, Paris, Milan -- you only see the wealthiest, and not the often dreary suburban apartment block bleah where most people live

@showshow_jp I think you teach food beliefs together. If you only learn that Muslims think pork is impure you may worry that it is, but if you then learn that Hindus think beef is impure, and Jews think shrimp is impure, then you realize that people have beliefs that needn’t be your own.

@learning_yohei America tends to value self expression over discipline. Some schools here have uniforms, but they are usually part of subcultures where the opposite is true, such as military or Catholic schools.

@webdevMason In general men compete by bettering themselves and women compete by tearing down their competition. This is because most of what makes men attractive is endlessly upgradable, but what makes women attractive, natural beauty, is not.

@upstatefederlst That’s an exaggeration, bordering on lie, but it does hold some truth to it. Hard on crime and pro police policies need to be as central to urbanism as transit and walkability if we want to reverse our decline.

All of the US's "walkable cities" are full of drug vagrants that make them not walkable for kids or people with kids.

@TheEcho13 You are right. Couples function best when there is a power balance. Home automation destroyed the economic value of stay at home moms, so they entered the workforce. With wfh we have an opportunity to bring high value female occupations back into the home. I suggest we take it.

If women left the workforce they would be economically dependent on men again, which means they would have to go back to being treated however men decided to treat them with no way to escape it. Men who hate that women have options don’t plan on treating women well.

@DeanAbbott This is the fatal flaw of #metoo and feminism in general. You want to cast male courting behavior as toxic? Ok, fair, sometimes it is. But you don’t just get to critize, you need to replace it with something. Men currently have no social script to follow to find companionship.

So many men live lives of isolation, their hearts entombed and cut off. They have so little human connection, so little love. It warps them. They sometimes do crazy things to escape their feelings or to compensate for their losses. And how do most people respond? Call them dangerous, perverts, sick and irresponsible. We're never going to fix society if we can't find some compassion for the average man.

@shinjukuacc It should be clear by now that the world overwhelmingly supports Japan staying for the Japanese. There are precious few great countries in existence, and it would be a crime to lose another.
