Open carry and concealed carry were both legal. Alex Pretti had a valid permit, and the firearm was concealed. The central question is not why he lawfully possessed a weapon. The question is why ICE agents killed him while he was exercising his First Amendment right to record and protest. What is happening instead is a grotesque reversal of responsibility: he is being posthumously blamed for his own death for exercising a constitutional Second Amendment right. There has been no independent investigation. Multiple videos show Pretti filming as agents approached him. He did not attack anyone. The firearm was never brandished, never drawn, never pointed at anyone. Six masked agents rushed him, forced him to the ground, and during the struggle one of them shouted “gun,” removed the firearm from his person, and then he was shot. At the moment he was killed, the weapon had already been taken from him. That is not a defensive shooting. That is the use of lethal force against an unarmed man. Call it what it is.
