A Bronx family is seeking answers after their beloved 7-year-old Siberian Husky, Sky, escaped from their apartment and plummeted to her death from the roof of a nearby apartment building.
Video captured the moment Sky fell from a building on East 199th Street in Bedford Park on Feb. 26.
According to the dog’s devastated owner, Joel Mendez, the friendly pet followed a neighbor into the building next door and was eventually seen on video following the landlord to the roof before the fatal fall. At one point, her yelps were captured on a doorbell cam video, he said.
“We have you on camera going up to the roof,” Mendez said. “We have you on camera, 3 to 4 minutes with the dog up there on the roof, and you’re denying having access or any involvement with the dog.”
“All I want is the truth about what happened to my dog,” he said.
He said he found footprints that day by the ledge but only dog-prints “at a distance, and it looks like she was carried,” he said.
Mendez said Sky was a “relaxed” dog who was “always happy.” Her tragic death has left a hole in the family.
“I have a 12-year-old and I have a 3-year-old,” he said. “It’s something mentally that has destroyed us. This is a family member.”
The landlord didn't comment when reached by 1010 WINS.
The NYPD is investigating the incident.

🎓 The Tunnel to Towers Foundation (@Tunnel2Towers) announced this week it will provide full scholarships for the children of fallen or severely wounded cops, firefighters and soldiers.
Founder and CEO Frank Siller made the announcement at the Tunnel to Towers Reunion Weekend in Orlando, which brought together thousands of families.
“To honor my mother and father, Mae and George, we’re going to make sure that we take care of your college tuitions,” Siller told a crowd to cheers.
The Mae and George Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation Scholarship Program will provide full tuition for any undergraduate degree programs and certified, accredited trade schools for the children in the Foundation’s Gold Star Family Home Program, Fallen First Responder Home Program, and Smart Home Program.
The act is an enormous weight off the shoulders of Irene Maiello, a Staten Island mother of two whose firefighter husband died in 2021.
“When Frank said it—which I’m not normally speechless, but I was speechless. It was just an overwhelming awe,” Maiello said.
Tunnel to Towers was born out of the sacrifice of Frank Siller’s firefighter brother, Stephen Siller, who was killed on 9/11.
“He was married and left five kids behind,” Siller said.
He said his parents were devout Catholics who “believed in the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi.”
“That while we have time, meaning while we are here on Earth, let us do good, and this is exactly what we’re doing,” he said.

New York City has officially suspended alternate side parking until Sunday, a move intended to give frustrated drivers more time to dig their vehicles out from under heavy snow.
However, for many residents, the gesture isn't enough, as massive snow mountains continue to block curbs and trap cars more than a week after the storm.
While the Mayor Zohran Mamdani maintains that significant progress has been made in the removal efforts, residents like Troy, who frequently rents cars for work, feel the cleanup is moving far too slowly for a city that needs to stay mobile. "I think that they should be removing the snow faster. It's been a week and a half and they're still picking up huge piles," he told 1010 WINS.
Many neighbors on West 25th Street in Chelsea also noted the ongoing frustration with the pace of the cleanup, stating that despite the city's urging for citizens to continue shoveling, the volume of remaining snow has left many drivers effectively stranded.

The @yarboglobal completed the first pass of the driveway and went back to the charging dock.
After about 1.25hrs, it will be 80% charged and will automatically return and continue to clear the driveway.
I plan to run it during the entirety of the storm and will post my review video on @stateofcharge this week.
So far, it's kicking A$$!
