AFL declined to comment. Understand the 97 figure is outdated. AFL participation in Western Sydney up 14% YTD. Additional 19 teams in the area this year. Junior community football up 10%. Community footy starts later this owing to Easter - hence later registrations.

Why pay +400 bucks before you have too. you train with your team, the club enters the teams, people pay at the last minute. was 60 teams on play hq in all of sydney in u13 last year. then theres u12 u14 u15

@CapitalCityCody There is absolutely no way that's including auskick numbers from clubs.

This doesn't align with what I've been told, or the teams registered for the competition. For example, Penrith have six teams in age groups 13 and under. Unless every kid is playing for pretty much every team, the numbers are way off. It *might* be closer for the 13u boys comp.
