Whew...Hawks dodged a bullet there. Knicks probably should have gone with a timeout. We have a series though!

@MattyWorldPeace I think for most of us who start watching a team at a young age it’s impossible to switch to a new team. It’s like you physically have no choice but to watch and root for them no matter how many times they break your heart.

@JFootlongNBA Wouldn’t win us a championship though. Mose made us relevant again, Tibbs could get us into the championship conversation but his teams never get over the hump with him. We’d be right back here in 3-5 years wondering who could help us make the next leap.

@StanleySwanson0 I worry that neither is an above average shooter though. I won’t advocate trading one of them unless next year is another disappointing season but I don’t think it’s quite the same as Tatum and Brown.

Same exact conversations were being had about Jalen Brown and Tatum. People just want instant gratification in today’s NBA and it shows who’s a casual and who’s actually watching the games .
Joel Moran@joelvmoran

I think the Magic need to make the decision of either trading Paolo Banchero or Franz Wagner. Imo it should be Paolo. Franz is a better driver, defender, and more efficient at the rim. They can't play together, and Franz has been better for years now.

A win in Philly would be this group’s first postseason road win. 0-7 on the road. 5-1 at home.

I Don’t Watch Film (Football Analytics)
@TFG_Football And I think you're underselling the amount of work and resources required for proper prospect evaluation. This is if you're actually evaluating prospects yourself and not relying on groupthink and consensus boards.

I Don’t Watch Film (Football Analytics)
Good thing I don't use spreadsheets to tell me if a player is good or not. I agree that blending film and analytics is the key in proper prospect evaluations. That's what NFL teams and actual decision-makers do. Saying you can learn a lot about a player in 4 games is bullshit. It's a lie people tell themselves because they just started scouting prospects 3 months before the NFL draft and there isn't enough time to actually watch an adequate amount of film for a prospect before the draft. It's disrespectful to the players and discredits the amount of work they've put in on and off the field. And it's disrespectful to the actual draft analysts who put in an enormous amount of time, effort, and resources into proper film evaluation. Watching film on prospects is fun. But let's not act like watching a 4-game cut-up puts someone on the same level as film analysts who actually put in the work year-round. Watching film and evaluating prospects is a skill. It's an art. It requires experience, knowledge, expertise, and familiarity, not just as a whole, but for every position. You want me to put any kind of trust or value in the opinion of someone who's telling me how good a player is for someone they had no idea existed the week prior? People who actually put in the work can smell the bullshit. A vast majority of draft opinions by self-proclaimed film analysts are so shallow that they cave the second they receive any pushback. The NFL is doing it right because they have actual investment in prospect evaluation. If most NFL draft analysts were actually held to ANY kind of standard and required ANY kind of credibility in their prospect evaluation, the quality of draft content would increase exponentially. But they're not. No, you cannot evaluate the value of a player in 4 games. Or 6 games. Or 10 games. If you want your opinion to actually mean something then put in the work and watch the damn film. Otherwise, you're a content creator first and not an actual draft analyst.
Marcus Whitman@TFG_Football

Hey man, your bit is cool but don't come at us film guys like that 😡. You can learn a hell of a lot more about a player in 4 games than any spreadsheet will teach you. The real ticket is blending both film and analytics.

Tired of watching a blow out and want to turn your attention to tomorrow? I enjoyed Spencer's piece on game planning so much I recreated what the data from scouting Mitch Keller (tomorrows SP) would look like. Link below and here are some of the bullet points for LHH:

@Massa_YT Should’ve been out months ago. Time and time again this team doesn’t show up when they have to. Late game collapses, vanilla offensive scheme, defensive fall off, inconsistent effort, it all comes back to the coach unfortunately.

Some interesting candidates the Bulls could target as their next GM: - Masai Ujiri (probably a pipe dream) - Bob Myers (Technically working for the 76ers) - Zach Kleiman (Grizzlies GM, from Chicago👀) - Jesse Gould (VP to Sam Presti in OKC) - Rob Hennigan (VP to Sam Presti in OKC) - Mike Zarren (VP to Brad Stevens in Boston) - Brock Aller (VP to Leon Rose in NY) - Nico Harrison...? (optics wise probably a bad idea lol)

@MarkZuckerman Hey Mark, just a quick bit of feedback. Would you mind waiting a couple minutes after the game ends to hit post on your instant analysis articles? MLB TV has a bit of a delay so getting a spoiler of the final score is a bit annoying in close games. Thanks in advance.

Cade Cavalli should've been out of a scoreless top of the 1st. But CJ Abrams booted what would've been a tailor-made 6-4-3 DP. Cavalli wound up throwing 11 extra pitches, and the Cardinals wound up scoring 2 runs.

Perhaps a more defensible interpretation of this is "the new regime is doing a better job of teaching plate discipline and pitch framing," instead of "the umps were biased against the 66-96 2025 Nationals".
Talk Nats@TalkNats

One observation 10-games into the season is that the #Nats are no longer getting the disproportionate ump bias on balls/strikes as the ABS seems to be forcing the umps to call them "fairer" leading to a 9.7% Walk Rate by Nats' batters compared to 7.4% last year. Now of course the new hitting coach philosophies could be part of it too, but the umpiring seems fair and we objectively know from Ump Scorecard that the #Nats were Bottom-3 the past 3 years in incorrect calls.

That swing is why they should keep Wood hitting first despite his struggles. If he was hitting 6th and his 3rd PA came up with two runners on, he’s likely getting a lefty RP. Hitting 1st allows you to get him as many repeat PAs against the SP as possible.
George@georgerlewis

@jasonwright25 That’s more of a question on how they balance figuring it out vs a slightly better lineup. Fwiw, He is helped hitting 1st. More likely to see the SP a third time instead of a (lefty) RP. SPs throw more strikes with 0 outs and in the 1st. More fastballs as well.

Where I’m from we call those coaches and we certainly don’t let them start the home opener against the back to back champs
Talk Nats@TalkNats

People are saying that Miles Mikolas was signed as an "innings eater" which really wasn't the case. He was a starter who made every start in 2025 (31 games). He was signed as a veteran pitcher who resurrected his career after a stint in Japan, and could be a mentor, especially to Foster Griffin who just came from Japan. Early observations are that in Mikolas' 2 #Nats starts he pitched scoreless 1st innings. Last year, his best inning was the 2nd inning in which he pitched to a 3.48 ERA. The answer might be to put him in the bullpen and pitch 2.0 inning stints and see how that goes. Nats could bring back Andrew Alvarez, Mitchell Parker or even promote Riley Cornelio.
