More unfounded nonsense. 144 hours over a 6 month period (24hrs per month) is designed to comply with the working time regulations and it exists for no other reason than to keep workers safe. You should have adequate rest periods from work for the safety of yourself, your colleagues and the public. The regs simply enforce that. The FBU rightly want more recruitment so that our numbers continue to grow, and in turn, our strength and bargaining power. Joining the FBU (15 years ago), and stepping up into active roles (10 years ago) were the best decisions I have made since joining the Fire Service.

@MacroryScott @woggastweet @Nat038Smith @fbunational They introduced a limit of 24 hours per month in NI. If you average more than that over a 6 month period, you are banned. The FBU just want more recruitment so they can dupe new recruits into signing up, as if it is compulsory, so they can get more money in.

Water companies have taken more than £70bn in dividends, leaving the public with leaking pipes and polluted rivers. It's time for the government to nationalise water, to ensure firefighters have access to clean water supply to safely tackle fires.

Low percentage pay rises which just widen the gaps between firefighters and officers, introducing overtime limits, not fighting for o/t to be pensionable like other front line services.

Today we remember our brother, firefighter, Ewan Williamson. Ewan tragically died in the line of duty fighting a fire at the Balmoral Bar in Edinburgh on 12 July 2009. Our thoughts are with Ewan's mum Linda, sisters Rachel and Rebecca and all those that knew and worked with Ewan.
