The good news is that billions are being saved out of BEAD funding thanks to industry and NTIA. Ideally the overage would go back into treasury but if politics is going to take over and the funds spent then this isn’t a bad idea lnkd.in/eNk3T6JB

Meanwhile, politicians want to effectively mandate these services in order for you to use vast swaths of the internet. It’s not only your freedoms that are at risk.

Critical thinking, common sense, research…thank you @ArielleRothNTIA Please share those values with others in government!

NEW @WSJopinion piece: How two hours, snow boots, & basic oversight turned a $4M broadband project into $0. D.C. asked @NTIAgov for $4M to connect just 55 “unserved” locations. That’s $70K each in one of the most broadband-dense cities in America.🚩 Something didn’t add up.🧵

$2000+! Annually. Every family. Time for @BrendanCarrFCC and the @FCC to unlock the affordability agenda! Thank you @SenLummis @SenJohnKennedy @SenEricSchmitt
Senator Cynthia Lummis@SenLummis

American families spend $2,000+ annually on mobile service, due in part to carrier lock-in. @SenJohnKennedy, @SenEricSchmitt, & I are calling on @BrendanCarrFCC to finalize FCC rulemaking allowing consumers to use their phone on any carrier's network once the device is paid off.

Data centers help drive energy prices DOWN: The states with rapid electricity demand growth are home to lower electricity prices. States like NY, CA, and MA that produce less electricity, have higher prices.

AMAZING news! Big fan of @AlexAdamsRPh States sometimes steal Social Security funds from foster youth and Alex is going to work to stop it “I will actively and expeditiously work to curb this abusive practice to ensure vulnerable youth have the resources they need to succeed.”

The states accuse tech companies of "monetizing kids" but it seems the states have their own "revenue maximization" systems. Thankfully @AlexAdamsRPh has arrived in Washington to take on this problem. imprintnews.org/youth-services…

The Texas Legislature should not have passed the terrible SB2420 this year. The populist Texas Legislature continues to put government bureaucrats ahead of parents regarding what parents’ kids do online. More here: vanceginn.com/letpeopleprosp…

The Vigilant Fox 🦊@VigilantFox

DISTURBING: Texas just opened the gates to digital tyranny. SB2420, a dystopian UK-style online ID law, will soon force Texans to verify their age to access even the most basic online services—marking the first step toward a nationwide Digital ID system. Set to take effect January 1, 2026, the law hides behind “protecting children online,” but experts warn it’s just another Trojan horse for surveillance and mass data collection. Both Apple and Google admit it will require users to surrender personal details just to check the weather or to download an app. It’s the same playbook they’re using in the UK and Australia, where “age assurance” laws quietly morphed into full-blown Digital ID systems controlling access to search engines and everyday online life. Louisiana and Utah are already following the same path under the same false pretext. When asked if he’d repeal the law if elected governor, Texas candidate @DocPeteChambers told us, “Of course I would. More overreach leads to Digital ID controls.” If Texans don’t act fast, every click, search, and download could soon be tracked, tagged, and tied to your ID. The time to push back is now—before it’s too late. Watch the full episode:👇 rumble.com/v70cs9m-warnin…

Wrong, our constitutional republic is a form of government to preserve liberty, not force everyone to abide by bad laws like SB 2420 when some people think it is appropriate. The way to deal with issues in technology is laws for bad actors, not one-size-fits-none laws. This was once a basic principle for conservatives. But control has now become the default for supposed conservatives. Sad.

Parents are the best protectors of their children — but this isn’t a parental rights issue. When Big Tech and corporate interests profit from sexualizing kids, the state has a duty to step in. Protecting children from harmful content isn’t big government. It’s basic decency — and limited government doesn’t mean turning a blind eye when kids are being targeted. #ProtectTexasKids #txlege

Some hashtag personal news! After 8.5 years at @RSI, I'm doing something new next week! Very grateful for an org that let me grow and manage our digital media, create 100 automations for internal use, become a scholar, and learn other kinds of work as well. Few places would have allowed me to do policy work without a higher degree, let alone in addition to my digital media work. It's in good hands with many colleagues I'm going to miss working with! But my email will be useless as of 5 today if you need me :) Find out what I'm on to next week!
