@HariPra44439237 @samrad77 The ossification center here can stay open until age 25 (esp in males) so the diagnosis of os acriomale can’t be made until then.

@dr_cellini The ordering doctor should have someone on call for his/her group that you can get ahold of. If you call their clinic number, you should eventually get to a triage nurse who can page the covering doc directly. Otherwise, call the patient and then maybe start calling next of kin.

@londyloo I try to always include one thing that I’m genuinely excited to present, like something that I’m proud to have figured out or thought of. It keeps me from being nervous and sounding too robotic.

SOS: how do I become better at my assessment & plan on presentation during rounds? I know I am a med student. I know I will have a lot of time to practice. I get flustered & when I get interrupted I lose my train of thought.

@MKIttlesonMD Set of Rules from the ICU: 1. Never trust anyone. 2. Always trust yourself. If it feels wrong, it’s because it is wrong. 3. Question the diagnosis. 5. Never let your patients fall unnecessarily into the hands of the surgeons. He would never tell me number 4.

#TipsForNewDocs: crowdsource edition Do you have random pearls from mentors that have stuck? Mine: “IV amio for VT storm is like Imodium for diarrhea- keep giving until it goes away.” “The Foley catheter is the poor man’s Swan.” Co-opted as #kittlesonrules. Share yours!

@gbosslet As a medical student currently agonizing over her own PS, we are often warned against going “too weird” in our approach. How often do you read statements that are polished and humorous, but make you think the applicant is too odd to give an interview to?

Take home points: 1. Use one of the recipes if you want to write a safe, boring PS. 2. Compelling PSs are narrative stories that provide insights to you as a person that is unavailable otherwise. 3. Want to write well? Read good writers. I put three in the tweets above. FIN/
