@stephan_till It is! And I like to wonder how cells don't fragment when they spread or how they don't tear when they contract. Somehow material properties and active force production have evolved together. But how far are cells from the physical limit they can sustain?

Some unpublished data on fluorescent proteins in the archaeon Haloferax volcanii (consider publishing only as a preprint with other stuff). Months ago our lab tried mBaoJin, the only StayGold variant that (anecdotally) that works in prokaryotes. The results were promising [1/5]

Another striking difference: tissues, different than unciells, do not require FtsZs (tubulins) for cellularization. That's another hallmark of differentiation. However, cell junctions seem pretty erratic without them. Note the abscission sites w/o FtsZs! (12/24)

Experiment of thought for the microtubule crowd.
Behind is the question: by sequestering free tubulin, does nocodazole simply block microtubule assembly (and let the old disappear first as they should) or does it reverse it (killing the young)?
