Our new study is out! By STED microscopy on kidney biopsy and ELISA assays we show 1/3 of pediatric and half of adult patients (more in primary FSGS) have autoantibodies against slit antigens different from nephrin. i.e. anti-slit Abs kidney-international.org/action/showPdf…

Look how much more important is to know if a patient is genetic or has anti-slit antibodies than if has MCD or FSGS at kidney biopsy. We have finally come to the era of autoimmune, genetic and adaptive podocytopathies. No more MCD or FSGS used as diagnosis!

What is a crescent? An abnormal response of renal progenitors while trying to replace lost podocytes. Our new study shows reversal of crescents into podocytes is anyway possible and changes disease outcome science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
