@randomoneh @SebAaltonen Do you need it? Wouldn’t parallax mapping and tessellation also be an option to take it to a more manageable and yet still better outcome at steep angles? Or does modern hardware for some reason dislike that?

@SebAaltonen Have you ever seen a dev team with too much free time implement both parallax mapping and high-poly geometry, based on available power (chosen menu setting)?

2-10x more productive, a company solution in a day! We have all heard and seen examples of these AI claims. But rarely do we see what actually is relevant to get there. Today I am trying to cover some of the angles of why many experience a different reality

@QodoAI @filippkowalski Absolutely agreed. I use opencode with both and others and agents - skill combos with optimal models / providers for exactly this.

@filippkowalski Both Codex and Claude Code can be valuable for building. Depends on your mood, needs, and constraints. 🔥 As long as you have an automated code review tool like ours to pair with them. 🤝

Codex is like a senior/architect engineer in their 40s who takes time to build something properly. Claude Code is like a senior engineer in their mid-20s, working for an SF startup, who's running on Red Bulls or occasionally cocaine and doesn't sleep much.

@Nowthis_X_media @DeItaone But is borrowing if the FED is the only buyer like in Japan with the BoJ not the same money printing? practically. the only ones that can print money are too big to fail banks because they can create money to lend it into existence even if the risk of default is too high

@DeItaone Bessent is underscoring fiscal constraints versus monetary power calling out how central banks can expand balance sheets while Treasury must fund policy through taxes, borrowing, or spending trade-offs, a tension that shapes inflation and debt debates.

@biancoresearch @amdshorn They can probably be backcharged to the trillions the pentagon is unable to find in their accounting . Also the nato and basically everyone doing business with USA paid for it: you don’t think you got to export the USDs absurd loss of purchasing power for free

@amdshorn so can we charge back some of that expense to NATO?

Community notes is correct, I included a chart of total defense spending and not NATO spending Why did I do that because NATO didn’t pay for F 35s, NATO didn’t pay for our aircraft carriers, NATO didn’t pay for our destroyers. We did. NATO gets to use them to project power and protect themselves.

@SahilAutomates @abacaj The context beyond 100k is for audio and video, not text. At least that’s the design that Google visualizes on the page

LLMs are still incredibly bad at long context, severe drop in response quality from the best of the best models (o1, Claude, grok, DeepSeek), doesn’t really matter what model - it will choke

@gregisenberg It’s a sufficiently solved problem but you as a human won’t like any solution that counters your dopamine triggers. Drugs are no solution (though sold a such - all the ADD drugs solve exactly this problem) as they replace one addition with a much more expensive forever drug

As the year end, it's time to reflect on the past to gain clarity for the future. Focus critical learnings and habits. But don't fall for the planning trap! "While we wait for life, life passes" - Seneca or it's modern version: "Life is what happens, while you make plans!"

@Pirat_Nation I think for PT to shine it requires a game concept that simply can’t be baked. Looking at these I would switch off at least PT as it does not add sufficient value for the performance impact it has even with DLSS3.

@MikeDisclosure Why does it need to be UAP technology? Couldn’t the hundreds of millions of users that provided drone video footage for model training to DJI have enabled autonomous spy drones that simply don’t need a signal, that like Palantir backed systems work from higher order goals?

@MR3Dev I think it’s more complex. The ‘Unreal nice looking’ default is Lumen etc > indie unfriendly. Works for current gen consoles. But desktop indies need to disable these ‘nicer than Unity/Godot’ features for performant games within budget. That or develop for the SteamDeck

@JohnLeFevre Used to be a necessity to keep the USD as global reserve through the petro dollar (a military arrangement). Allowed US quality of living to be high despite negative factors. The new nationalistic streak is likely going to change both and with it the NATO - EURASIA angle too.

Oil-rich Norway has a budget surplus of $77 billion, and is lauded globally for their progressive values - healthcare, welfare, education, childcare, etc. And yet, the United States is still subsidizing their NATO contributions. Why?

@Rana_kamran43 The scary leaders are the ones that can not be found, don’t decide or don’t do their job. Means that a growing number of people need to do it all with a different angle and culture fracturing. That leads to significant pain, chaos and destruction of capital and innovation.

@Pirat_Nation I got the 4090 because at the same power draw as the 2070S I get 3x the FPS, get DLSS3 and 24GB of VRAM (instead of 8) for AI and game dev compute workloads. It’s a work beast like my old original Titan.

@Pirat_Nation I’ve a 60hz 1440p monitor that can actually present somewhat correct colors and edible text for long coding days. 4090 doing just fine. 60% power limit > lower heat / pwr draw for gaming. Only needs the full power for running / training AI. Even Cyberpunk 2077 path tracing>DLSS3
