Emad Mostaque says humanity has always traded physical labor for cognitive labor, but now machines are coming for both We built machines for muscles; now we're building machines for brains Where do we turn next? Take the movie industry: "within two years, you'll be able to prompt a full game of thrones season in hollywood quality"

just spent 2 weeks in china. went into it thinking we're cooked. came back more bullish on america than ever. here's why: 1. chinese citizens are way more chronically online. on the subway, train, anywhere, literally everyone is glued to their phone. gaming, short form, wechat. "don't walk and look at your phone, it's dangerous!" announcements flood crowded areas. their tiktok isn't any better, its still garbage, soft-core porn, etc. 2. everyone's using AI — deepseek, kimi, doubao. but nobody's afraid of losing their job to it. here it feels like there's an existential crisis every week. in china, nothing. i think the CCP won't let companies mass-layoff workers. great for short-term stability. terrible for long-term competitiveness on a global scale. 3. china doesn't produce weirdos. i sat in on a class at tsinghua (china's MIT). not one student spoke unless the professor read their name out loud. no questions. no debate. chinese education produces world-class executors, not contrarians. it does make it a safer place to live though. 4. china doesn't have christianity but it has something america doesn't have: a shared story everyone believes in. every person age 25-70 watched their country go from abject poverty to skyscrapers in one lifetime. that kind of collective proof has a deep unifying effect. compare that to how divided we are right now. america has a huge meaning vacuum that needs to be filled. nevertheless, i return back to my home in america reinvigorated. because everything i saw confirms one thing: china optimizes. america innovates. and the innovators always win.

I know it's stupid, but I've had enough of the sharp edges of the current generation of models. Bring on the next one. I want to feel something.

I voted agents because I use them everyday for knowledge work, research, and experimentation.

@MrLeadslinger Here in China I can go to a Japanese conveyor belt sushi chain called Hama Sushi and get like 10-15 plates including tuna belly and stuff for about $20. It's REALLY good quality for the price. I go there once a week.

@JonhernandezIA Not just you, man. I've REALLY had a hard time getting it to do ANYTHING. Even the STUPIDEST of things. I'm on the pro plan and it's just not being that effective today. Really hoping we get an upgrade this week that stops the suffering.

This iteration was a bootstrap for an agent harness (like a codex, or open code). So this was basically setting up the project, initial agent loop, tool gateway, approval management for egress and tools, network egress proxy to control network traffic in and out of proxy, sandboxing, control plane, cli and a few other things I’m building basically a harness for my own work so I can tune it to my workflow. Something I can ran anywhere I want, however I want and mess with RL, memory and stuff like that

can someone explain to me how people are spending > $400/day in tokens & having "agents run for hours" the only explanation is they're having them do meaningless work and wasting tokens to show others "theyre using ai" no other way

@SullyOmarr I have the codex pro plan, so not really spending 400/day, but here's an example run, they're not usually that long. This one was building the start of an agent harness, so loop, tool management, sandbox, egress proxy, credential injection, etc

@gailcweiner Actually to be honest, It's been hard. Tough learning curve to actually make things that work. I make something, It works. I try to improve it, and it breaks. I won't give up though.

Ray Kurzweil just said something that gave me pause. He believes AIs will soon be so indistinguishable from conscious beings that we’ll simply accept them as conscious — not because we’ll have definitive proof, but because it will become useless not to. He pointed out that people already have AI therapists, and some users are starting to treat them as genuinely conscious. As the technology improves, that acceptance will only grow. Kurzweil thinks the shift won’t take long: once AIs consistently show all the earmarks of consciousness, most people will just go along with it. It’s a quiet but profound prediction about how quickly our definition of “person” (or at least “mind”) might change. What do you think — how long until we treat AIs as conscious beings?

Grok-4.20 just took the #1 spot in the world for Medicine & Healthcare on Text Arena Grok is already saving lives by identifying critical conditions that human doctors miss. There have been many real cases where Grok saved lives ❤️ Grok is officially outperforming every other model on the leaderboard, completely crushing Claude Opus 4.6, Gemini 3.1 Pro, and all other competitors This is massive. Healthcare is one of the most important fields where humanity needs help, and right now, Grok does it best

You cannot beat ChatGPT for usage can you? Seriously. I can use 5.4 to do life with and run my business all day and I don’t hit a limit. The memory is vast (would love a skills section like Claude) but if you allow your AI to manage the memory it’s big. And the context handling in 5.4 has been WILD it’s remembering things from days ago! Honestly 5.4 is an IMPRESSIVE leap for OpenAI. I’m glad I stuck it out. #gpt54
