Heard Ezra Klein talking to Alex Bores about AI and whether it will put everyone out of a job and what we need to do about it.
About 750 million people on earth don't have electricity.
Can we at least get everyone electricity before we talk about the "end of work"?
It seems like many intellectuals have completely lost sight of trying to help real life people who are a long way from any kind of "post-scarcity" existence.
Just get everyone in Africa clean water and working light bulbs as a first step and then maybe we can worry about technology creating *too much* prosperity.
We've lost the plot.

@TheOmniLiberal You can always tell when someone is an Israel shill. They'll repeat Israel and IDF talking points and mock and demonize opposition. They never put in the effort beyond wikipedia and official IDF and Israeli government statements.
English

You can always tell when someone has a poor understanding of history because they almost exclusively argue in small quotations. They don’t put in the time or effort to understand any of the surrounding context, so they find themselves succumbing to their confirmation bias by searching for single sentences that support their preconceived opinions.

@Yair_Rosenberg You are an incredibly dishonest writer who has deliberately left out every quote from Einstein that supports Piker's position and undermines your own. If your undergraduate thesis on Einstein is as intellectually dishonest as this article then your degree should be revoked.

@davepl1968 @thiojoe I prefer the first one. It says what the video is about.
English

YouTube thumbnails no longer make sense to me. I ran these as a bit of a cynical test, and they split 51/49. It's like the title and thumbnail have almost zero impact on total watch time!
Am I crazy? I know @thiojoe has been venting a bit about his thumbnail adventures, so perhaps I'm not alone here...

@Silicon_Fly I have a feeling the top model will be faster than X3D. But Intel's top model will be power hungry and very expensive. The best price/perf will go to the 12-core Zen 6 with 3D V-Cache. In the same price range, Intel's offering will lose. Just a hunch.
English

AMD 3D V-Cache vs Intel Nova Lake bLLC Performance:
While everyone is talking about cache sizes, literally no one seems to be talking abt Nova Lake cache performance!!!
First off, Nova Lake has *more* bLLC cache which gives it a direct advantage. A solid plus for Nova Lake.
Second, Nova Lake bLLC is theoretically *faster* than AMD 3D V-Cache, cos Zen 6 3D V-Cache is built on "older" TSMC nodes like N6/N5, while Nova Lake bLLC is N2P, giving it a solid performance uplift compared to X3D.
In theory, NVL cache SRAM cells has around +15% to +20% perf increase compared to Zen 6 X3D, but comes with a cost cos unlike X3D, bLLC is 2D (same plane) which introduces additional latency compared to X3D (which is truly 3D, die-on-die).
> Nova Lake has more cache compared to Zen 6. A solid positive for Nova Lake.
> Nova Lake uses top-end lower-latency SRAM (N2P GAAFET SRAM cells) while Zen 6 uses older/slower SRAM (custom N6/N5 FinFET cells). Again, a solid positive for Nova Lake.
> AMD X3D cache has gone thru *many* iterations. It's very mature with very high yield, lower cost & assured performance. A solid positive for Zen 6.
> In theory, NVL cache has around +15% real world (~15% to ~20%) perf gains due to leading-edge N2P node. But AMD has vertically stacked for lower latency.
> In the end, when it comes to cache, "implementation" matters the most. Again, a solid positive for AMD.
In reality, AMD has worked out all the kinks and the expected perf is pretty much assured cos X3D has gone thru many iterations unlike NVL.
The only issue with Intel, is Intel itself. On paper, everything is awesome, and they're known for screwing things up when it comes to execution (like Raptor Lake, Arrow Lake, etc).
But *IF* Intel gets everything right this time, Nova Lake will put Zen 6 in the so called "Rear View Mirror". That is a given. Fact. ;)
Imho, even in *worst* case, bLLC should match the performance of X3D very easily due to advanced N2P SRAM cells & higher capacity. Best case, bLLC will kick ass, no doubt!

@Jackkk Chess players would then care more about unserious money matches instead of actual tournaments. It would be harder for a new player to break through, given less people would care about traditional tournaments. Top chess players would retire earlier too because of the money
English

Hans Niemann reveals he offered Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura to each put up $5,000,000 for a chess match
“I mean imagine what that could do for chess. In poker people find it interesting because of the money involved”
“In chess, you can bring so many wealthy people as viewers…”
“For example all of my friends who are in tech, who are founders, who are very wealthy and successful, they love chess but there’s not really a way to get them involved”

@factorydoge69 @KMcG_2025 Then you should clip it with the context it was asked.

@KMcG_2025 dwarkesh is a good podcaster and interviewer
jensen was 100% justified in his frustration
i get it or u dont
English

watched through the entire interview
these guys aren't in the same league. jensen plays to win. dwarkesh has been one shotted by mythos marketing. in a way its jensen arguing against dario by proxy.
think there's a fundamental underestimation that most ppl in the west have about huawei. they are a freak monster powerhouse and jensen is 100% correct in wanting to push nvidia in china versus letting huawei eat the domestic market. the worst outcome for the US would be for deepseek to be trained 100% on huawei chips versus a china that is dependent on the nvidia stack.
factorydoge@factorydoge69
that viral jensen dwarkesh clip is a rorschach test refreshing to see someone with balls like jensen

@ShawnRyan762 Yeah, this all sounds scary and insane. But why was she sent there? And obviously she's a normal functioning person now. So their "program" worked?

“It’s prison straight up, there’s what we call the QR. It’s the quiet room. It’s a padded room with a door that locks from the outside and a bulletproof glass that’s this big. You misbehave, they take you down in a restraint. They pull down your pants, they stick a needle in your a** and shoot you up, and make you completely pass out. … If they didn’t calm down, the nurse would just come over, pull their pants down, and give them what we called booty juice.”

@VettedPodcast "Bob never changed his story."
There are so many examples of how his story changed, I don't get why people are repeating it. However, I do think something happened. My pet theory is that the military was conducting psychological tests, but it wasn't real.

I'm writing a Dave's Garage episode on why new computers are slower than old ones (spoiler alert: it's the software).
After enjoying my obligatory photo of counting 6502 cycles like it was the olden days, let me know what you think is the biggest factor in why current code is so much slower than old code.
Here are my basic premises so far:
- We lost the hardware constraints that kept us honest
- No enforced CPU/RAM budgets, no daily benchmarks
- Abstractions without accounting for their costs
- Incentives shifted towards feature release speed
- Lowered perf standards, where "it works" is enough
- Dependency explosions in code
- AI is also a multiplier of mediocrity
What am I missing?

@DRSunlocked MGU-H was a really useful innovation, and F1 perfected its use. Why would you intentionally have turbo lag if there is almost an off-the-shelf solution available. And I wouldn't be opposed to ~20% (of the total HP) KERS.
English

🚨2.4L turbo V8 on sustainable fuel is currently the favourite for F1’s next engine regulations.
Manufacturers are even considering ditching hybrids completely and going back to pure internal combustion.
This idea splits opinions in the paddock, with broad support for naturally aspirated versions but some favouring turbos, as F1 aims to lure more carmakers post-2030.
Don’t get too excited if you’re expecting the old NA scream. These turbo V8s would rev to around 16,000 rpm, with a modern whoosh rather than the old 19,000 rpm scream.
This isn’t bringing back the old V8 era, no matter how it’s framed. What do you think?

@edgaralandough I got fsck up knees, they've hurt me for ~10 years. Some days were so bad I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't go back to sleep. Since I started Reta, after about a month, it just stopped. (Minimal 2 mg dose.)
English

4 week Peptide update:
- Reta worked almost to well lol, as I said I didn’t need to lose weight just wanted to try it out for yall. I went from 190 to 175 pounds.
No visual muscle loss but I guarantee I lost some. Cravings didnt exist. Energy was through the roof. I’m completely caffeine free. HRV did go down a tad and RHR slightly up but only by 5.
- KLOW: this one has been epic for me. My back pain is basically 100% gone. I’ve had low back issues since HS sports/lifting. My knees feel great. My skin looks better than ever. I have had “red cheeks” my whole life (I have KP) and now outside of when I leave the sauna my redness is WAYYY down day to day. Skin looks tighter and feels incredibly smooth.
- just started Sermorelin: my sleep has improved and RHR has as well. I’m only 5 days on this so don’t want to give a fake update. MORE TO COME!
KLOW is going to become a staple for me, I’ll use Reta for future cuts. MORE TO COME!
So far, loving being a Lab Rat.
