This is a constant challenge for tech companies, due partially to the general level of openness within the companies, partly due to the culture of tech employees vis transparency, and partly due to e.g. media having very different engagement norms than they do with other actors.

it’s a difficult position to be in when all your private comms are de facto public comms. it means you may as well coordinate in public, which is hard to balance with the basic principle of “don’t argue with the family in front of strangers”

@PriteshSMB Another fun one, satellite imagery can be +/- 10 ft (3 meters)... usually not but possible

@allafarce Half the time in Google Sheets when I ask for things like "Remove the characters 'us/' from the start of every line", it drops out to a Python Dataframe, messes up my data, and inserts it in a new "Table" for some reason.

@orthodoxmason @AHomelyHouse Is the core skill building a double wall? Or maybe my question is – which Trust workshops give a good foundation?
English

@AHomelyHouse Thing is, is that if you have a property with stone on it, all you need to do is get some basic tools, take a workshop with the Stone Trust, and in your free time you can create structures like this quite cheaply.
All it takes is gumption, which does seem to be in short supply

@onyxfish I have wondered when the balance of web development will transition from English into Chinese, or if our Internets are too separate for that at this point.

@MapMakinMeyers Check out our buddies at the Lincoln Institute, you'll love 'em, "This report from the Lincoln Inst. of Land Policy and the Center for Geospatial Solutions explores the current state of corporate ownership [...land] in the United States." (PDF only tho) go.lincolninst.edu/whoa-mapping-c…
English

@MattH that is a heck of a report 'eh!
Gonna tinker w some Wisconsin data 'eh. See who is stealing all of our beer, meats and cheeses. Probably the FIBs...

@simonsarris You could probably, with some modest effort, swap in MapLibre maplibre.org/maplibre-gl-js… and a nice Protomaps baselayer could live on your box docs.protomaps.com

@yescynfria @youwillmakemaps Or* (3 tweets up)
Mapbox may eventually charge me hundreds but I don't have to worry about that just yet. That will be my only other expense, I hope.
English

haha, since there are no investors I have no one I need to lie to. The project is self limiting. The map is full of people who think maps are fun or at least vaguely like me and want to share a location (any location). I kind of think paying users will top out soon.

@simonsarris by my calculations, you just hit $430k annual revenue 🤯

If you're in Seattle and run 1TB+ on Postgres I will come to your office and bring a mountain of merch in return for you telling our CTO @NickVanWig all your db problems (you can tell me your personal problems)
Sam Lambert@samlambert
If you are in the SF bay area and run 10TB+ on Postgres, I will come by your office and bring a mountain of merch in return for you telling me all your problems. s@planetscale.com

@MapMakinMeyers Have you tried/used Muckrock? It's been a minute for me
English

@MattH No, the Swiss Travel Pass in only valid in Switzerland. Here you will find the validity area: sbb.ch/en/tickets-off… /sc
English

@RailService Hello! Is the Swiss Travel Pass valid on service from Switzerland to destinations outside of the country, for example, the SBB EC from Zurich to Lindau?
English

@felt That's great! How does that interact with Felt's pricing around data hosting and data processing? Eg if I map a ... 10GB table in PostGIS, is that 10GB of data processing?
English

@dougnagy And they probably meet much better accessibility standards than many other places!
English

@MapMakinMeyers i'm sure they take care that absolutely nothing gets into the groundwater and the fruit. definitely.
English

@MattH they like butt up to one another everywhere over there!?
English

@lsong Thank you for sharing that! Where is the 3% drop coming from? I thought values continue to go up in Ann Arbor? (Expiring millages?)
English

It’s #a2council budget time. Love these numbers from our City Administrator and City Staff. But super mindful of our CFO’s warnings of property taxes dropping 3% annually for the next several years. 1/3
