Wait weren’t you grandstanding like a few months earlier about importance of innocence until proven guilty, and that was your rationale for donating to the ice officer who killed Renee Good? Are you suggesting this deep core principle of yours is only applicable in certain circumstances - ie white collar crimes and state sanctioned murder?

A statement from the family of Alex Pretti, obtained by CNN: "We are heartbroken but also very angry. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the hero term lightly. However his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He has his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed. Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you."

We have reached a stage in our country where there are only two sides to every issue and every incident. Each side lives in protected echo chambers which are provided with a curated set of ‘facts’ and/or video footage from certain camera angles that are consistent with the preexisting views and conclusions of that side. Individuals are ‘convicted’ of serious crimes in the headlines, by politicians appealing to their base, and ultimately in the minds of the public, or they are exonerated, before all of the facts are in and a detailed investigation has been completed. This is not good for America. We need to go back to a world where we suspend judgment and await the conclusions of a detailed investigation before we convict or exonerate. Let’s not forget that a man is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Rushing to judgment helps no one and harms us all. It also greatly elevates the temperature, which keeps potential targets of law enforcement and those who enforce our laws on edge, massively increasing the risk to all. We need to take a deep breath and reserve judgment before this gets even more out of control.

Unfortunate update as of today: More calls from friends. The total wealth that has left California is now $1T. We had $2T of billionaire wealth just a few weeks ago. Now, 50% of that wealth has left - taking their income tax revenue, sales tax revenue, real estate tax revenue and all their staffs (and their salaries and income taxes) with them. In other words, by starting this ill conceived attempt at an asset tax, the California budget deficit will explode. And we still don’t know if the tax will even make the ballot. California billionaires were reliable tax payers - 13.3% every year. They were the sheep you could shear forever. Now California will lose this revenue source FOREVER. Unless this ballot initiative is pulled, we will not stop the billionaire exodus. With no rich people left in California, the middle class will have to foot the bill.
Chamath Palihapitiya@chamath

Collectively, the amount of Billionaire wealth that has left California in the last month (!) is now in excess of $700B. That means the $2T of California wealth they expected to tax is now down to $1.3T and falling quickly. I would not be surprised if 2026 ended with less than $1T of billionaire wealth in California and decades and hundreds of lawsuits. A complete and total unforced error. Where was the Governor? Where are our leaders?? If they don’t kill this ballot initiative and entice those folks to come back, the California budget will be massively upside down. Only place to get the money is to cut waste, fraud and abuse or increase taxes on the middle class. The latter is much simpler than the former.

In three years, the grinning swagger of the new socialists will be shattered as they deploy the worst playbook at the worst time: Facing massive deficits, they will double down on spending, reduce policing & drive out the top tax payers they’ll fall into a death spiral & beg for a federal bailout.

California was supposed to be the place where you “lived and let live”. How, instead then, did it become the most oppressive, over regulated and overtaxed place in America while also being the worst on crime, housing and education of our kids?

This is because California’s state and local politicians have completely broken LA and the state in general. It is increasingly untenable to do business: - Too many permits - Too many laws - Too much overreach - Too many delays - Too many taxes It’s killed Hollywood and it’s coming for Silicon Valley next. The difference is that Silicon Valley can move. Hollywood just sat by while the government and party they blindly supported gutted their industry. We won’t.

What a fucking Karen. Bill just bet on Cuomo if you think the price is good.
Bill Ackman@BillAckman

I keep heard from some that they have given up hope on the NYC mayoral election based on the probability of @ZohranKMamdani reflected by Polymarket. The problem is that it takes only a small amount of capital to influence Polymarket trading levels. Please see the post below about evidence of manipulative activity on the mayoral election. Ask yourself who would buy Mamdani at 95% to make 5% with the potential for a total loss. It seems like a stupid trade even if you think Mamdani will win. In other words, I think the 20-1 payoff to bet on @andrewcuomo for the win looks really compelling now in light of the high turnout, the age of those voting, and growing momentum going into the last week. Don’t forget that Polymarket had @andrewcuomo with an 85% probability of winning the primary a week out from the vote. Let’s not let the betting sites affect the outcome of the election.

This is it, friends. This is where I come from. These are the fires in which my disgust was forged. The vacant stare. The Miss America smile. The trappings of middle-class conformist consumerism. The self-assured, momentary, "tell me I'm pretty" pose clashing with the lack of effort in self-presentation and the impatience of choosing an unflattering background. The smug, condescending delivery of the message: "I have done what you warned me not to do." All of it completely irrelevant to the topic at hand, forced awkwardly in front of it. Obscuring it. Replacing it. Upstaging it, or so she hopes. Standing between you and what matters, she says only: "Look at me. Look at the difficulty I have caused for you. Witness the joy that I can only derive from being your problem." This is not about politics. She doesn't understand them. She doesn't even think she knows better than you. She only knows that you can't tell her what to do. She doesn't even think she has power. She only knows that you have even less, and this is where she places her heart. When the bill for her foolishness comes due, oh, how her expression will change! No longer a bold and toothy smile! Now a pouting bottom lip! No longer a triumphant hand in presentation of her own radiance! Now a through-the-eyebrows scowl, arms folded! No longer an empowered, educated feminist! Now, a hapless princess in need! "A real man pays the bill without asking!" She offers nothing. She demands everything. She will never be held accountable for the destructiveness of her choices. She will be celebrated then as she is now, not for her contributions, but because where she is celebrated is where she will choose to be. She is the table. And the table is set. And she has placed her order. And all that now remains is waiting to be served.
